ACT clutch guys

I just ordered my ACT Xtreme pp and 4 puck. Just wondering how other guys liked this clutch in a miata. Ive had one in my dsm and one in my turbo G20 and loved them. Never slipped, great drivability. Thoughts? Comments?

Ive got the 1.6l act xt clutch with organic street disk. I love it, the pedal is much heavier than stock, but the engagement is just as easy otherwise.

And it holds my l33t whp.

you should replace the 4-puck with a Street disc.

ZM1-XTMM is what I recommend. if you're going to go pucked, you simply need the ZM1-HDG6. Unless you're making over +/- 330rwhp give or take.

This.

I love my ACT Xtreme with organic disk. I don't make mad horsepower...but it holds like none other. Slightly stiffer, but stock-like engagement. My mom can still drive it. (no I don't live with her, she takes car of my daughter during the day assholes).

I've had my ACT xtreme clutch in the car for awhile now and I'm happy with it. No slippage, and it has been good to me through all my different setups and power levels. I highly recommend. :bigtu:

I had the extreme plate with organic disk in my turbo car.

Liked it so much, bought it again. Never had any good experiences with pucks.

231 ft/lbs isn't the limit when it's rated to 307... and been shown to hold higher (from what has been said on miata.net).

For the XTSS, at least... which i think we're all talking about here. Extreme pressure plate with performance organic disk.

p51hellfire 01-12-2010 08:05 PM

lol i though it was the HD with organic my bad

spoolin2bars 01-13-2010 12:33 PM

xtreme plate with organic disc = win
xt plate + 6 puck = tolerable engagement
xt plate + 4 puck = driveline decimation
well, to be fair, the 4 pucks i've driven have been in non-miatas, but i don't know why it would be any better in a miata than others. good luck

I have an ACT Xtreme w/ Organic disc. Love it most of the time. The clutch engages closer to the floor, and is stiffer. Only time I hate it is when I am sitting in stop and go traffic.

then stay with your kit. unless you go to a tilton twin disc.

A friend of mine went with the ZM2-HDG6 6 puck in his turbo miata, and the drive line shock in reverse is disgusting. I instead went with the ZM2-HDSS organic and love it.

ii have the 4 puck its not bad from what i read on the specs though its only good for the mid 300's though in the 1.6 size. Drivability is just like any other puck clutch mine is unsprung though but still overall i love it cause the shit works. Pedal is hard yeah but you get used to it.

I have the same clutch. I was happy with it boosted.

I had thew xtd stage 3 and 6 puck sprung hub and loved it. Hoping this will have similar engahment.

vw_nut 01-14-2010 08:07 AM

Another thing to consider with the 4 & 6 puck clutches is they wear out much faster than a regular clutch disc. Had a friend wear through the friction material in like 20K on his vw. Don't know how the Miata ones fare.

it'll have a similar engagement, however, the clutch will be pretty heavy. Driven a Mustang lately? It's that heavy.

I have the extreem plate and the organic disc for now I like it, the pedal is very light in my opinion, the Mcleod twin disc thats in my camaro is easily 3 times heavier, my wifes butt comes off the seat just trying to push the pedal in on that car.
