Am I Fu*ked???? Shavings into manifold?
Ok, so I've been working on the miata the pass couple of days. I tapped the IAT sensor into the intercooler, I used grease/lube on the drill bits, so I assumed that not much of the metal shavings went into the intercooler.
I left the car alone and didn't drive it for a couple of days and totally forgot that I might have had shavings in the intercooler so I just screwed the IAT sensor in and ran the car. The car choked and wouldn't run so I tried again, it ran but the whole engine bay was shaking wild. It only rumbles on idle and WB say it's running full lean at some points 16s during idle, but when I rev a little the rumble stops and WB is back to the 14-15. The shavings most likely got sucked into the intake manifold. Uhhh, what should I do from here? :vash: Damn I'm retarded :loser: |
aluminum is soft, I highly doubt it damaged anything. I've eaten worse.

No. My guess is that the idle is due to soemthing else. Vac leak, tables, something.
|
I'm a bit relieved now. I'll check later, thanks.

you say it runs funny when your wideband pegs to full lean? huh. |
Did you make any boost? Maybe your signal line got plugged.
|
If youre not a pussy you can make the car idle lean.
16s are not too lean for the car to idle well. Every time someone posts "My idle is rock solid at 13.0:1", God kills a kitten. Think before you tune. |
i wish i was a badass tuner like you. cause 13:1 is rock solid.

hell, I even have an Idle VE table and things get twitchy above 14.4:1 or so.
http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...-1/idle_ve.jpg It's cheating if you have stock injectors, an exhaust leak that's giving false AFR readings, or a poorly calibrated sensor. |
Mine doesn't like a lean idle either. Any less than 13.5 and she starts popping.
|
|
I never said it was easy
|
your mom is easy? :P
Anyway to the OP aluminum shavings will melt in a heartbeat inside the engine. Iron shavings would be a different story. |
Sounds like your running on 3 cylinders. check coils / you ignition system.

so what you're saying is that idling at 16:1 is a GOOD IDEA?
The engine is under an extremely small amount of load, and a lean AFR will not cause any detonation or overheating or anything. The only reason I would go any richer would be if the idle was hard to get stable, but thats usually not the case. It just takes well tuned fuels, ignition, and IAC settings. You cant just lean it out and expect it to idle right |
I idle at low 15's but i assure you that little aluminum turdlets didn't mess up your engine. Wait, you just put in an IAT? Did you just eliminate the maf? Did you reload firmware?
|
I didn't install shizzles yet, just tapped the iat sensor. Hopefully getting injectors, tps and ms installed tonight.
|
Get a video of it running.
|
Just went out and it runs fine now...:dunno:
|
Problem solved.
|
your welcome.
But seriously, if its a loose connection it will come back. I didn't do the pins right on one of the connectors for my coils, and every once of a while I would be driving and all of a sudden I was running on 3 cylinders. It was not safe lol. |
