Another overheating Miata...

Stock 1991 1.6L car
only engine mods are HKS intake and cat delete.
I live in Florida, its effing hot here.

Driving yesterday I noticed that when I would park and get out of the car, I could smellllllllllll what the coolant was cookin'. We all know that brown shugar smell.

But seriously, its leaking out of somewhere and Ill be dipped if I can find it. I checked the water plug in the impossible dream. I checked all the hoses both when off and while the car was running and hot. I checked as well as I could the heater core hoses and they seem fine as well. Outside of these things, Im about out of options. I cannot physically see a leak anywhere. The radiator is new. The water pump is new, as it, and the timing were done right before I bought the car. It was done right, as I know the person who did it. Also, theres no tell-tale drip at the front of the oil pan.

Ive heard that the freeze plug on the back of the engine will leak. And my clutch does feel kind of crappy when the car is hot and its exhibiting these traits. But how common is that? I also heard that one of the things that you can see when this is happening is steam coming from the bellhousing and I have yet to experience this.

Im rambling and getting ahead of myself because Im panicked. Unfortunately I have to drive the car all day.:jerkit:

Im going to check for milky oil today but I doubt its a BHG. But just to be sure...

How old is the radiator cap? It's a cheap/easy item to replace in order to find out if it's what's wrong.

I plan on replacing the cap, but I know it's not the problem.

I was actually able to observe it today, and it is either the water plug or something else in the impossible dream. But most likely the plug. I popped the hood after driving for a bit and it was just a sputterin and a steamin back there.

Most likely the dreaded water plug. good luck.

It was the water plug. Gave it the old permafix. Section of fuel line, two hose clamps and a bolt.

This has made me think about doing the coolant reroute. I'll do some more research, and then likely decide in favor.
