Is there a minimum recommended practice for storing a complete block assembly? Ideally i'd like to keep it outside for space reasons but it can be

A) oiled down
B) under a roof overhang
C) covered with plastic
D) not on the ground (on a deck, in rubbermaid tub)

Otherwise I'm open to suggestions.

1 2 3 and 4 are currently done. i threw a towel over the deck surface just for fun. and to absorb moisture or condensation.

edit: ahh newspaper is a good one. i can shove some pics of the pope up my motor.

Well it's already done, but for the benefit of future searchers, you can get awesome stretch wrap from ULine on a roll. It's perfect for wrapping up blocks, heads, turbos, and whatever else you don't want to get exposed by air.

I would make it a regular practice to inspect it. I put a complete 99 longblock in storage, wrapped in plastic and all oiled up. A year later the bores were rusted to kingdom come. I've got a block now that I've sprayed the bores with wd40 every two weeks for about six months with plastic on top and it's fine.

if you're really worried about it,completely fill each cylinder with oil, then spray the whole motor with wd40 and then wrap the hell out of the whole assembly with saran wrap.

Coat engine in machinist wax. Done.

EDITED FOR INVALUABLE INFORMATION: Machinist wax is also how you kill damn stumps that won't die on their own. You know, the ones you cut them off and **** just keeps sprouting out anyway, like a Pop Corn Tree.

In the past I pulled the head off an engine and coated the hell out of the bores, pistons, cams, etc in valvoline synthetic axle grease. I put the head back on loose and left it on the engine stand for over a year without even looking at it. When I moved out of that house I decided to disassemble to engine before putting it in the truck (less weight in one place in case the stand fell over). Everything was still clean and shiny under the heavy grease. That motor is now rusting away in a storage unit because my lazy *** didn't re-grease it when I got to point B.
