Anyone block off the thermo valve on the plenum
What exactly does this thing do? I have a spare manifold and I`m prepping it for my new block (extra nipples and drill and tapping PCV hole)
Since I`m doing a coolan re-route, can I just block this thermostatic valve off? Also, on the IAC valve portion of the throttle body, does coolant flow through it as well? |
Coolant flows through the IAC portion. I just routed the lines around it, omitting it.
Which thermostatic valve are you speaking of? The one that mounts on the 1.6 intake manifold? |
Yes... 1.6
|
It increases the idle speed when the coolant is cold. I went to a 1.8 on my 92, effectively omitting that valve, and don't have any problems.
Granted I live in Texas, not Canada. |
I have my MS set to only use the IAC valve on warm up. My idle is set when warm only by the idle screw.
So when my car idles at 2k RPM for 2 mins after I start in the morning, that`s from that valve? I already drilled and tapped the coolant hose output on the manifold, so when I put the freeze plug in the front it will all effectivley be blocked off? |
I deleted mine when I went did the reroute and went MS at the same time. I just made a little plate. I have MS always control idle.
