Default jump a/f meter

I installed my autolite a/f meter, and its seems kinda jumpy, but wasn't sure if its supposed to be like this. whenever i'm driving it goes all the way lean, sometimes even dissappears, then will flash up to stoich/rich border area. i'm gonna go check the wiring that goes to the o2 right now, but anyone else ever experience this? bad a/f gauge? bad o2 sensor? or am i just retarded?

that's normal....read up on how a narrowband sensor and your ecu works.

its more like this:

the narrowband sensor is not linear...infact, 14.7 AFR is somewhere betwen .2-.8v. The ecu make small changes in fuel untill each end of the spectrum is hit, and then it reduces the fuel untill the lower voltage is reached.

so at idle the gauge will swing from the edge of rich to lean.
