Anyone use the moss A-piller 2 gauge pod?
http://www.miatamania.com/Shop/ViewP...eIndexID=33823
It says fits 90-02, Im just looking to see if this fits "good" or "perfect" on a 90. I was under the understanding that na and nb's had a little bit different a-piller shapes. Discus. |
Also does anyone know what size gauges those use. Im planning on putting a innovate lc1 with a db gauge, not sure what size that is.
|
i believe its a 52mm

I use it, fitment is really good. Fits a DB gauge too (I had to sand the hole *barely*). Visibility is decent. There are two holes in the side for screws that they provide, but I found that after installing it under the top latch and under the door weatherstripping, you don't even need to screw it in.

Thanks apex, thats all i wanted to know, ill be ordering it tonight.
Where do you run the wires? |
Thats the fun part. I ran one wire up from under the dash, took me some time but I just kept poking around and finally the wire came up and out where the A pillar sits, then I just tied my gauge wires to that wire and pulled them all up at once. Now whenever I take wires out (switching gauges), I just tie a wire to the gauge wires that I am pulling out, so that once I pull the wires down and out, all I have to do is tie the new gauge wires to the wire I pulled through so I don't ever have to fish around again.
|
Easist way to get wires into tight spots is to tape it to a straightened clothes-hanger and just feed it up.
I also did that to wires/lines that needed to go through the firewall. |
I found that the path for my A pillar lines had too sharp of a turn in it to use a clothes hanger, but knowing me I'm sure there is an easier way to run them that I over looked.

Bill Wilner is having a 3 gauge pod molded. I got one.
As far as the DDM works piece goes, my plan is to do the NB climate control mod like this: http://www.tokuhara.net/cars/miata/dash/dash_left.jpg |
Wow, that's clean and it looks good! What all is involved with that swap?
|
just wiring it up :)

One problem I have with the A-Pillar pods: The door molding does not fit well over the bulge in the top pod. I had to cut the molding to fit but it still slides off occasionally, which allows the entire pillar to rattle. Very annoying. Also, for you ---- retentive types, the texture does not match the other stock A pillar.
On the plus side, the visibility on the gauges is excellent and they snuggle into the pods nicely. |

Problem with having the gauges so low is that you can't see the damn things. I never look any lower than the bottom of the steering wheel, so that's the lowest acceptable position for any aftermarket gauge that is worth having IMO.
I'm picking up one of Bill Wilmer's 3-gauge pods to replace my mickey-mouse ears. |
