anyone want to lend me some strychnine??

I just finished installing the new engine.
I start it up... runs super smooth. no more smoke...

Then I notice the increasingly large puddle of oil coming from under the car.

so turns out the people I bought the motor from didnt put the rear oil seal in correctly (I'm guessing) as the oil is coming from the dust boot on the bellhousing, this is no small dripping leak either, it is a freakishly steady stream whenever the motor is running.

So hopefully the new flywheel and clutch arent screwed..

If we lend it, does that mean we get it back?

Good luck replacing the seal.

Ouch.

I'll let you use some, just don't put it in MY Guacamole.

The good news is IF it's a rear seal, piece of cake. Remove tranny, pull clutch and flywheel, replace seal... reverse.

Since you're gonna have to do it, make damn sure the clutch you really want is in there. Unless you're Braineak and get off on pulling the tranny, you only want to do it once.

I do get a high finishing a clutch job in under 3 hours.

nicacus 05-14-2008 11:35 PM

yeah it's a piece of cake but it is a pain that I even have to do it.

you may or may not get the poison back..

So the oil seal is replaced but I noticed the oil pan is missing the little U shaped rubber gasket that goes on the back...

There isnt a way to get the oil pan off without dropping the sub-frame or taking the motor out is there?

jedduh01 05-17-2008 04:04 PM

I could be wrong, but if you have the tranny out... and know the U gasket is not installed. I think the pivot of the engine on the front mounts, combined with loosening all the pan bolts will allow the pan to drop enough to slip in the U Gasket... However, you will still have to contend with sealing it all back up, getting good RTV in there between the splash pan and sealing the front seal.
Tough Situation to be in. Goodluck

I thought that too, but you can only reach so many of the bolts on the oil pan.. I'm really starting to think I will have to pull the motor back out :vash:
