Aw crap- need a new left rear caliper....
Trying to bleed brakes, started to loosen the bleeder screw on the left rear caliper and it broke off. Dremeled a slot in the remainder, liberally soaked with PB blaster, stuck a flathead in the slot and put vice grips on... tried to turn it out and just broke off the remainder.
Went for the screw extractor method- fragged the threads to the point where I couldn't get a new bleeder screw to take hold. Tried to re-tap to no avail. I guess it is time to just replace the caliper. Anyone have a spare left rear sitting around they want to part with? |
Passenenger or driver?
I have one, but the Piston is sucky -Not Stucky, sucky. You would need a rebuid kit for it also, and the rebuild kits do not come with the piston. - So if your piston is shitty, then you are out of luck here............ |
Get a remanufactured one from NAPA.....the net cost is about 40 per side. Way easier than a rebuild kit.

Last I saw for a 1.6 rear was $125 + core for a reman. Fronts were cheaper, but I never saw a rear for $40. I bought a used one one from www.panicmotorsports.com for $28 shipped. They should have more. Good guys and fast shipping.
EDIT: Oops, just saw your sig and saw that you had 1.8 brakes. Just saw 93 first. Might still check with them. |
hustler is dumb

Napa looks like $76 plus core for a rebuilt left rear. Not bad- but I'll see what the panicmotorsports guys say.

Is this a 1.6 or 1.8 caliper?

And i too need a drivers side rear caliper. Mine locked up on me and started smoking the other day. That was fun. |
Artie- have you greased the slider pins recently? They need attention about once a year... try that first if you haven't done it recently.
1.6 and 1.8 calipers are the same AFAIK. |
Na, i haven't looked at it in almost exactly a year now. i changed the rear pads to axxis ultimates last june and im sure i greased the pins up then. But my brakes didnt pass inspection. When they did the brake balance test it showed that the drivers rear brakes were barely working, if anything. I am almost sure that the Ebrake on that side isnt working that great either (but was fine last week AFAIK). Ill take a look at it all today and see what I can come up with. Maybe it is just a simple grease, adjust ebrake, and bleed the line.
