Hey all,

I am looking to buy 2 new / used 2001 style headlights for my miata... been searching online and have found a few for the $300ish per piece range but wasn't sure if anyone here has a suggested supplier that is good and legit?

If at all possible, I would like to keep the $$ here in our community but haven't had much luck finding them in stock. Spoke to Tom at the Parts Group but he's completely out of em... made a few other calls to the usual used miata part houses and have struck out there too...

$300/pr is a good price. They list for $450-$550 each for regular ones and MSM version new fron the dealer. Be aware of the year headlights you do buy as 05 had a slight change where the low beam bulb changed type from H3 to 9006 or something like that (IIRC).

Whatcha buying the extra pair for?

I think I have a lead from Ben on a good price for new ones... but will know more later.

My 99 needs better lighting and the OEM 99 lights are starting to take on water now... so it seems that there is no time like the present to upgrade. Had an HID failure as a result of the water; so I'm out a set of bulbs anyhow... so if I can roll with the new projectors and get new bulbs... life is good.

You had HIDs in the 99/00 headlights? Ricer. At least by getting 01+ lights you don't have to demonstrate your lack of knowledge about using HIDs in reflector housings. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I despise people who don't know any better or refuse to do the research.

Now..HIDs in the 01+ are pure win.

Lol, so harsh...

Actually I was using the D2"R" bulbs with 3/4 of my reflector blacked out. They were not offensive nor rice at 4100k... the D2R bulbs are designed to be used in a reflector housing, which most people don't take the time to look up. Take a look at the housings on say a 2004 Volvo S60R... they are reflectors and not projectors... With the vast majority of the reflector blacked out and a lot of the surrounds muted, my lights were decent and not glaring. I even went as far as to aim my lights down and right... just to be polite. Fact of the matter is that my company car's OEM headlights are much more offending. (2003 W8 Passat with factory HID)

Thanks for the backhanded bitch slap tho. But I'm not "one of those guys" that went rice and rude. I actually give a **** and took the time to use black VHT on my reflectors beforehand.

Well, with your informative post, I stand corrected. Very few people comprehend how it works and think "well it makes more light and I can see betterz so that must be aight..and dem colored bulbs make my headlights look good"....and I assume most are retarded and do not have the mental capacity to do more than stick a bulb in a houseing and go. I will say that some OEM HID/reflector setups are terrable.. like any in the Acura line of cars and the Maximas...but with that said, BMWs seem to have a problem with glare as well on their projector setups.

4100k is a nice light for the eyes. I started off with 6k but didn't like the blue tint and dropped down to somewhere in the mid-4k range (we all know the k is +/- depending on the kit/bulb) although I think I want to go a bit lower for a bit less of the pure white and more of a natural sunlight color.

Seriously, you can't go wrong with 4300k... I ran those in my Volvos since 2001. Made a few CA to MD and back runs and no matter the road condtions... they did great. Even had some 3000k fogs for those late night Mendocino runs past the redwoods. The less blue, the better. But don't tell that to the Maxima crowd... they think the higher the K the more better they is and ****... yo.

I'd be interested in some info on cheaper headlights as well. My MSM is gonna need new ones since one smashed to hell. I think I'll probably by regular ones and then just paint the housings black.

Never heard of these vendors, but they're likely as cheap as it gets for new NB2 headlamps (although they're most likely TYC's, meaning pretty good but not OEM Koito good.)

I'm curious to hear Ben's price as well. I have a set of 99s and a 99 bumper to put on my Frankenmiata, but I'd much rather get the 01+ setup.
