BeatRush PPF brace: Idea
4 Attachment(s)
I just read the review on mnet for this thing, sounds like it makes the rear end extremely stable and planted. So I had a thought: If the brace creates lots of NVH, could we make the two legs from the PPF bolts two-part and have a chunk of poly between each to absorb the NVH like shock absorbers?
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1398826557 Here's an idea I was throwing around in my head, since poly bushings are so damn rigid, you make a cup and sleeve type setup and slide the diff end into form-fit poly sleeves to absorb the NVH. Of course, I made this as gay as I could :makeout: :dancegay: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1398826557 The problem many might see is if it shifts left/right or even forward, what's to stop it from pulling out? I was thinking it could also bolt to the bolts adjacent to the PPF attachment bolts as well, assuming NVH wasn't too harsh (or worse than the original design). |

That's another option I was thinking about, can't seem to find an appropriate one though..

Were you thinking of modifying the Beatrush brace or making a whole new one?

A whole new one originally, I like your idea better though. I'm just trying to figure out what size bushings I would need that would fit a 14mm bolt and if you can't get them thin enough, grind off the extra thickness..
The top one under 4-bar shows what seems close. Anyone have one of these braces on hand that can caliper the inside diameter of the bolt mounting area (and take a picture if you could) and thickness? |
I don't think the bolts at the subframe mount are 14mm, I think they're 12mm. I, too, was thinking you were making a whole new one, so size wasn't that important. But, I've modified these 4-bar bushings on a lathe before.
Another option is to make some bushings out of delrin, but that probably wont reduce NVH by much, if at all. --Ferdi |
The subframe attachment points already have some sort of non-metallic bushing.
