Savington 01-22-2009 02:38 PM

I love doing english-metric conversions in my head as I go WOT past my braking point on track.

levnubhin 01-22-2009 02:45 PM

I'm actually considering tryin these when I ditch my pos Prosport gauges.

SunproŽ

Anyone have any feed back on Sunpro?

its not so bad for water temp...but I feel ya broly.

I wish I could find an electric, full-sweep gauge that matches the stock instrumentation for water temp.

That was my thought too.

They do look nice, for the whole reason I love analog guages: simplicity. Here it's almost too much. Almost to the point you would have to look harder to get the information. And I like to know how fast I'm going.

If there's a matching watch though consider 'em sold.

That does look like something Steve McQueen would've worn.

But since you wouldn't know what a real man is until he knocked you out I'm sure you're googling that right now.

Steve McQueen and particularly Paul Newman were men, we are boys.

when my dad was still racin', he met steve mcqueen once. dude came over and asked for help on his race car.

I got tired of my Autometer boost gauges being inaccurate after a year of use, so I tried GlowShift which failed miserably, ended up going to AutoZone and paying $40 for a black faced Sunpro boost gauge. It works like a champ, I was actually running 2psi more than I thought I was.. (19psi, not 17psi.. lol)

Thats a different style gauge, but I say go for it. I probably wouldn't mess around with their electric gauges though.

I have a gauge delimma. I hate the begi boost gauge, like my greddy oil temp but its orange, I have a greddy egt that's orange, and I need a water temp gauge. I want the greddy one, but its expensive and orange.

Can I convert to orange dash lights? I'm about to pull the cluster to pull the airbag bulb, put in the water temp gauge, and replace the speedo cable, so I minus whale change the lights out too. This is a clubroadster question.

spike 01-22-2009 06:30 PM

Hustler,Omori Meters makes the gauges for Greddy, you can pretty much get whatever color you choose to have them light up in,I'm pretty sure you can get different colored bulbs from them to replace your orange bulbs.

thanks for the heads-up. Now I'm going to remain calm, and chill, because I paid a total of $130 over what I should have paid if I had just purchased omoris from the start. Now I get to read shit in fucking celcius, with orange lighting. Wow, I'm really fucking pissed off right now.

Thanks, I'm going to get green bulbs from them, then probably pick up their boost and water temp gauges in green. I'd like for everything to match.
http://www.j-spectuning.com/images/A...BZ+R_COMBO.JPG

Edit, I can't seem to find all their shit. But I found an oil temp gauge I could use for water, with warning for $140.

spike 01-22-2009 06:58 PM

Hustler,I know people with Subaru's that have done business with this place with great success. They also have a wide selection of Omori gauges posted on their site.

J-Spec Tuning

It sucks you paid too much for the gauges and all you got was the "Greddy" name on them. The fucked up thing is,Omori also makes gauges for HKS.

Midtenn 01-22-2009 09:58 PM

I run an Omori 45mm boost gauge in my MR2 and I'm very happy with it. Its white in color though.

patsmx5 01-22-2009 10:03 PM

well, I scored quality gauges but I thought I had to compromise on the metric measurements...turns out I was wrong.

I have two ProSport gauges, boost and CLT. What kinds of problems are you having?

The 1st boost gauge lasted about 1 month until it would stay at 5psi WITH THR CAR OFF. The sent a 2nd and it did the same thing WITHIN 1 WEEK.

I also have a CLT and oil temp gauge. They were fine except for the whole color change thing. They only change sometimes. Then when I put the motor back in after rebuilding it both temp gauges just stopped working. Just like that, they were fine and then they were fubared.

I just can't bring myself to spend $140+ on a gauge. They are nice though.

actually, they're ugly. I can get another greddy for that price and although I will have to deal with metric measure, it will look clean as fuck. Its not that hard to go "100*C, all hell is about to break loose" when looking at water temps.

How is the lighting shit??

You wanted something close to the OEM illum.

Most full-sweep electrics are pricey.

I had nothing but fail with my prosport gauges. The gauges themselves were not bad aside from being very difficult to see during the day, but I did like the dual color modes for day and night driving.
But the senders were awful, I had electric boost, egt, and oil pressure.
The sender on the boost gauge went out after a month, and I got it replaced under warrenty, the second boost gauge went out after about 9 months and was not covered by warrenty.
The EGT probe went out 3 times; first two under warrenty the last not covered.
The oil pressure gauge went out last and after that I just thew them all away.

Good to know. The Sunpro boost gauge that I bought at Advance Auto was $24.90. I just wanted a close reference and didn't want to spend a bunch.

if you look to them at an angle you can see the bulb shine through and reflect of the bezel. One side of the back lit gauge is brighter than the other.

Gayness.

Have you seen the GS in person?

Autometer claims they are LED backlit, I was hoping they looked better then their standard shitty illum.

Its been a few years...I may just run that one though because
1. its not a show-car
2. its easy
3. readily available
4. i'm a mothafuckin hustla, betta aks somebody

any chance that gauge uses a 1-wire probe...and does anyone know the resistance range of the stock gauge? Maybe I can hook it up to the stock plug rather than drill and tap.

hustler 01-24-2009 08:53 AM

I ended up grabbing an electric 52mm water temp gauge in green back lighting with a yellow needle, with warning for $100 from j-spec. I wish I found these guys sooner.

Here is an interesting option, looks a bit like a prosport

The SPAs aren't as pricey as you think they would be. I'm considering picking one up; their oil temp/water temp combo with senders is $250. I paid $140 for just oil temp, so $250 for two gauges isn't bad.
