Definitely interested in FC brake upgrade, I joined the forum for it!

Jake, I'm in central FL too if you need a guinea pig.

Keep me posted, thanks!

Pitlab77 01-24-2008 06:57 PM

Guys i think someone type wrong information earlier.

As far as I know the sport package(what I have) has the same size brakes at the all other NB's. It was the LS package with the 16" wheels that had the larger rotor.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Ben 01-24-2008 08:15 PM

The 01+ "big" brakes are often referred to as sport brakes

Braineack 01-24-2008 08:44 PM

omg i want.

hustler 01-24-2008 09:31 PM

I wish I could use these 12.3" TT rotors I have. :(

I always thought the sports were hard to find and pretty pricey. Where did you pick them up at?

Did you get the rears too? how much and from where?

I gave $150 for used rotors and pretty thick oem pads with calipers for the front. I already picked up a set of hps and blue's for the street and track, and I'm running 1.8l standard rears with hp+ on the street and track with the wilwood in-car bias adjuster. I was overheating the hp+ in the rear on my 1.6 at 94whp, hopefully the larger 1.8 rear will get the job done so I have 4 less pads to swap for the track.

I haven't put any heat in these yet to know how it works considering I'm still on the stock 1.6.

spike 01-25-2008 01:55 PM

^ interesting set-up you have.Let us know how well it works once you get a good track day out of them.

I myself am trying to find the 01+ sport brake rears.

they're really hard to come by. Most of the time you can only get the front sport because people switch to wilwoods, so don't get your hopes up.

spike 01-25-2008 02:15 PM

^ If I cannot find the rear sport brakes,my last option will be to order the Goodwin racing billet caliper brackets.

a bet a little dryer ducting with hp+ would get the job done on standard 1.8 rears.

Jake,

Any rough estimate on when the brackets will be done?

Nothing fun :(
Using a CMM on the hub and then hammering out the final dimensions. Day-jobs getting in the way.

1fastmiata 02-14-2008 10:31 PM

if you guys want a big brake kit for your miatas, my family makes them, go to www.hyedracyl.com and check it out, not sure off the top of my head how much they are, im running the kit (uses stock calipers and i think 12.5" rotors) and OMG is there alot of stopping power!!! its so much cheaper then buying the willwood kit!!!

Cool, I would like to check them out but it's not listed on the site.

1fastmiata 02-14-2008 11:37 PM

damnit! he took it off, check on monday, they will be up!

mx5roadster 02-15-2008 11:09 AM

Thanks for the update Jake, can't wait till these are done.

1fastmiata 02-15-2008 03:51 PM

sorry about that guys, i talked to my uncle(he runs the site and the business) and it seems that we made my kit special, to do this brake upgrade utilizing the stock calipers it requires casting, not just a bolt on extension as some kits take.. im sorry about the false alarm on that one guys!

News? I'm also interested in a set of brackets.

Here's two pics I found on the pointy board of the bracket size differences:

Homemadeturbo.com

Spoke with Robert from driftingjellyfish last night, they are making some progress on the brackets. They will post when there is something substantial to post.

Did you see that? Gas just hit $3.50 a gallon. Damn.
UHWM differential mounts are now $45 shipped. Buy some if you need some.
I’ve had some requests for a stage 2 so Delrin diff mounts are coming out soon. Probably 45-60 days out without a group buy.
UHWM NA/NB Miata motor mounts in soon. Machine shop just confirmed that they’ll be finished by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and shipped by the weekend.
Big brake kit is currently getting the best of me. Should have a handle on it within the week. Updates asap on that one. There’s a thread over on Miataturbo, I’ll link when something good happens.
Nothing since then. I sent them an email a week ago.

in for duplicating whateer you do because I'm an unoriginal bastard.

airbrush1 04-14-2008 08:12 PM

Anybody try using some measurements and emachineshop.com? My fab guy said no because of liability..... With the right measurements.... mounting points and caliper offset.... anybody with some sense should be able to make something up in CAD and have it made...

patsmx5 04-14-2008 08:16 PM

I have a set of 4 pot RX7 calipers. I'll be making some brackets this summer, and thought about making a few extra sets if there's interest.

5 pages of responses not enough interest Pat?

M-Tuned 04-15-2008 04:32 PM

Would the masses prefer to use 01+ Sport Rotors, or the Corrado G60 rotors? I have someone to make the brackets.

UrbanSoot 04-15-2008 06:16 PM

whichever rotors are cheaper. i want some brackets too!

Mark,Chikara motorsports already make mounting brackets for the 01+sport rotors for their BBK.

cjernigan 04-15-2008 07:06 PM

I bet the corrado rotors are hella cheaper than the 01 sport rotors.

M-Tuned 04-15-2008 07:37 PM

Yeah... That is what my research has shown me. Do we have decent interest in brackets to fit the front with an RX7 Caliper with a Corrado G60 rotor? Like I said. I can get it done. The guy wanted to use my car this weekend to mock it up, but I am busy and need to locate some RX7 front calipers.

airbrush1 04-15-2008 07:40 PM

I'm in for corrado rotors and rx7 brakes. depending on cost of course

Braineack 04-15-2008 07:41 PM

there is more than decent interest. You build it, they'll buy it. See how many views are in the COP conversion thread? over 33K, I'd expect the same.

Mach929 04-15-2008 07:52 PM

yeah i'd say there would be a good market for an affordable brake setup, make sure they fit under popular wheels though

M-Tuned 04-15-2008 08:08 PM

This would be hard. I only have 16" Volk TE37s for my car!

RusMan 04-15-2008 08:36 PM

I can make some brackets or full kits if you guys are interested. Corrado rotors and wilwood dynalite calipers, what I have right now.

elesjuan 04-15-2008 08:43 PM

Theres more than enough interest for some VW Rotors! Go!!

M-Tuned 04-15-2008 09:35 PM

Done deal.. They are going to make brackets so you can use an RX7 Caliper and Corrado Rotor. My car will be going under the knife for this very soon.

zarish 04-15-2008 10:09 PM

I am in. Like to know what the cost would be around.

Miatamaniac92 04-15-2008 10:24 PM

I'm in for the brackets. Also, depending on cost.

Chris

patsmx5 04-15-2008 10:30 PM

I have a 99 and was planing on using the stock rotors. Is there any reason you can't? Guess I'll find out eventually unless there's a reason why it wouldn't work.

I was hoping it would work with stock rotors so this is a cheap upgrade. I got the calipers for 40. The brackets wouldn't cost shit to make. I'd sell the brackets for 20 bucks if I made them. It's just a piece of flat stock with 4 holes in it.

patsmx5 04-15-2008 10:41 PM

For you, I'd give ya the family discount... Twice as much as everyone else pays. ;)

MX5Fr34K 04-16-2008 12:05 AM

Any word yet on the brackets? I'd love to pick me up a pair for the front brakes. By the way, GREAT discussion thread.

To Quote, "IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME." :friday: I came, and now I am drooling to have me some 4 piston calipers tossed onto my 2000. :yippee:

Arkmage 04-16-2008 12:09 AM

Ordering up a set of calipers tonight... if there arn't any brackets available by the time I get back from offshore I'll model some up and send them to my CNC shop for a "sample build".

M-Tuned 04-16-2008 10:05 AM

Probably around $75-$85 for the brackets. There is quite a large investment for the company making them as they need to run 250 brackets at a time.

Still a great price in my mind.
