Anyone know where this came from? Should be from a 90 miata.

Looks like the nut and bolt for a subframe brace or the small bolt of the PPF

You find the nut to match, or were they paired?

kenzo42 03-18-2015 01:53 PM

They were paired.

I did remove the PPF. I also removed the rear subframe.

Where on the PPF are you thinking it belongs?

If it came with the nut, it's probably not the PPF; but there are two long bolts and a short bolt by the transmission.

They look similar to a cross brace on the rear subframe, but that might have a welded nut on the subframe itself.

Is the tip of the bolt tapered?

What size is the head? Is it sitting in the top of a jack stand?

With a lock washer and washer could be axle or drive shaft.

Drive shaft looks right to me.

Wow, I guess the picture looked a lot stubbier than I expected, but yea, bolt and nut are two different sizes, then I'd also vote driveshaft.

Better pic. Both bolt head and nut are 14mm. All bolts from the differential to driveshaft are accounted for. Any other ideas?

Is this a quiz? Will you tell us the answer if we cannot guess correctly?

Is it a regular nut, or an oval-shaped, "squished" mechanical locknut? If a locknut, then it looks like an exhaust manifold nut, and in that case I think the bolt and nut are unrelated to each other.

Now that I can see the pointed end it's definitely not a driveshaft bolt. Some of the subframe bolts are that shape, but they aren't 14mm, so I dunno.
