Bosch H4 conversion kit

FM is having a group buy on these, just wondering if anyone has them, and their thoughts. A pair for $50 seems like even a small improvement would be worth it.

makes a huge difference, even with shitty $4 bulbs. sucks they need so many people.

compare to a pair at retail: http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=739

I just signed up....now 47 more of you bitches need to join so I'll get a good deal.

stranges12712 02-03-2010 12:54 PM

You guys are years late, I've had mine for 3 years now, there great buy some HID's stick them in there and you'll never complain about lighting again. I like my 8,000k nice blueish look, 6,000k are the whiter look.

Bond 02-03-2010 01:10 PM

So these make miata lights look like Audi\Mercedes\Porschea lights? If so, I'm in.

Braineack 02-03-2010 01:16 PM

they have a different reflector pattern and better bulbs. they output light better, and you can see better at night. you can put in purple h4 bulb if you'd like.

Ordering for the sake of purple bulbs.

FRT_Fun 02-03-2010 01:46 PM

Sweet hopefully we get 50 people.

Looks like we need 38 people.

Keith@FM 02-03-2010 02:05 PM

With the amount of interest we've had in this in the past 20 hours, we'll probably be able to get the minimum fairly comfortably. But just to make sure, tell your friends with Jeeps, old VWs and other cars with 7" round lights!

sn95 02-03-2010 02:06 PM

38 to Go!

Smoking price on these lights. I just joined the FM group buy, I am sooo tired of my no name low profile lights that don't light up crap.

longuyen88 02-03-2010 03:44 PM

I signed up! These are on the cheap!

NA6C-Guy 02-03-2010 03:49 PM

If I didn't already have a set of Hella's I'd be all over it. For sure worth $50. Light is put on the road SO much better and has a very sharp cut-off similar to HID's. At least the Hella's do, I suppose the Bosch are similar. I'm running 100W Hella bulbs and I have more light available than some HID setups I have seen.

mekaw 02-03-2010 04:16 PM

I just put an order through as well

redrider706 02-03-2010 05:11 PM

+1

ZX-Tex 02-03-2010 05:16 PM

In. Thanks for the heads-up

stranges12712 02-04-2010 12:53 AM

100W! I used to run those, got high beamed by every person lol. Anyone seen the 35,000k? There pink...worst lighting ever, higher the "k" light output=less. But if you were a chick I guess it would look hot.

They don't blind unless your beam is crap. With the e-code the light goes on the road, so I've never had a high beam flash. With the cut off being so sharp, you either get light or you don't. Glare is very very minimal, as opposed to a lot of HID's I see (especially after market with people using stock reflectors/lenses) that look like welding arcs coming at you. I had one guy come at me one night with those really blue HID's in a poorly executed install on a tall truck. I literally had to come to a near stop in the middle of the road, I couldn't see shit. I was ready to pull a u-turn and chase him down, but I kept my cool. I could literally see his lights coming 30 seconds before I actually saw him. I was at the foot of a 1/2 mile long up hill stretch and he was around a 40 degree turn at the top, and probably also about 1/4-1/2 mile down another straight away. Fucking light ricers. I curse them all!

I assume those are 80/100 bulbs.

H4 E-Codes (notice the cutoff):

E-Code with HIDs:

ScottFW 02-04-2010 11:36 AM

I currently run the Hella E-codes for which I paid about $90. This FM group buy price is attractive enough that I might just pick up a set for spares. Glass lenses on my other vehicles seem to pick up stone chips every few years and with the Miata being fairly low-slung I'm bound to need them sooner or later.

In the last pic with HIDs/E-codes, is it just overexposed or is the light pattern really that blobby? The upwards flares look much more vertical and intense with HIDs than with H4 bulbs, which could be blinding to other cars.

I'm happy with my H4/E-codes but more light on the road never hurts. I was thinking about picking up a set of HIDs (probably 6000K, nothing too ricey) to try in my same housings but I don't want to be "that guy" driving around with the fucked up blinding aftermarket headlights.

SamS 02-04-2010 11:38 AM

My Hella e-code/HID's definitely don't have as much upward glare as that last pic shows.

he took an image with less exposure:

ScottFW 02-04-2010 12:01 PM

Now, that beam pattern doesn't look too unreasonable.

Braineack 02-04-2010 12:04 PM

worse case: you add a line of electrical tape to the bottom edge of the lens. I personally think the typical bulb oem cheap H4 bulb with those lenses is enough, but when others use the better hella bulbs they look great. i see no need for HIDs.

fooger03 02-04-2010 12:12 PM

+1, in on the GB yesterday, already at 37/50 ppl...only 13 more to go!

You need these!

Yeah that looks very similar to mine. I have my lights aimed correctly with 6000K bi-xenons and have never been flashed for blinding oncoming drivers.

FRT_Fun 02-05-2010 08:59 AM

There are 56 people signed up so it looks like we are getting this deal.

The Driver 02-05-2010 10:50 PM

Can't wait to get them...

cueball1 02-06-2010 02:14 PM

They've got close to 100 people in now. Definetely happening. Good deal for us barn door guys. I'm in.

Turbo_4 02-06-2010 05:02 PM

I bought some h4's off of ebay and saw a huge difference.

Watts?

At what wattage would a wiring upgrade be necessary?

No real set number. Some people say the wiring is too small for any kind of upgrade, but lots of people have run double the wattage with no issue. My 100's have been doing just fine with no problems yet after well over a year. Don't know if I would want to go with the really high wattage bulbs (I think 140 is available) mostly out of reliability. 140W bulb won't last very long most likely.

FRT_Fun 03-05-2010 07:31 PM

I just installed these today. They are about 1000000x better than my sealed ones! So happy with this, and the price was insane!!! Thanks FM!!

miatauser884 03-05-2010 07:38 PM

I already paid for a set. Couldn't pass at that price; waiting for arrival.

Bond 03-05-2010 08:06 PM

I got mine in, waiting to be able to walk so I can install them. Kinda pointless though as I won't be driving my miata for a while.

ZX-Tex 03-05-2010 09:37 PM

Mine are here, sitting in a box, in my garage. Got other stuff to do first.
