Boss Frog Arms
Does anyone have feedback/thoughts on these? http://www.bossfrog.biz/frog%20arms.htm Seems simple enough that I can make something similiar (now that I have a welder :D ).
|
I'm sure they add chassis rigidity. But I wonder who is going to buy these before all the other things there are to spend money on. I'd say it's a very narrow market- build on request perhaps?
|
just make your own...how hard can it be?
i would do this if it was very cheap, not otherwise what do you plan on using material wise? Al? SS? |
I wouldn't remove my fenders for a mod like that unless it was a dedicated track car. They'd be simple enough to build yourself. Long as you have access to some 1/4 to 3/8 steel or you can weld aluminum. You could even make the ribs bolt on so you wouldn't have to weld anything if you used 90* angle stock.
|
I was planning to use mild steel, nothing fancy. And it is going to be a dedicated track car. I was thinking probably wouldn't need that big flat part with the holes if I just took some 90* angle and welded them in a "Y" shape.
sorry if you misunderstood, my intention isn't to build for others, just something similiar for myself. My question was if bracing this area was worth the trouble. I'm sure it couldn't hurt... |
since its a track car only, do you have the seams welded yet? that would help more
|
similar bracing has been used on other vehicles and made by companies like gtspec and cusco...in those cases, they are simply referred to as fender braces...just remember that braces were meant to increase rigidity and stiffen chassis...nothing more...in most cases, the extra bracing leads to alot more creaking noises...
|
I saw a a set of these before that used pipe instead of flat stock, not sure if they were for a Miata though.
I'm no expert, but if you don't use that big flat part with the holes in it won't the flat stock just flex? I think the pipe would be stronger without the flat part. |
no, it adds more resistance therefore it does do its job and reduces overall flex

So a search on m.net for seam welding. There are diagrams and writeups.

[quote=MiaTurbo;179812]And if there was less flexing, how would it add creaking noise?
If you make one area more rigid, other areas will flex more, and they will creak more. From what I've gathered, use aluminum if your trying to make something rigid. Two parts both the same weights, the allumium part will be more rigid. |
Things like that are big in the Impreza world. Everyone and their mother makes one or a knock off of someone else's.
