BOV options

Figured since this isn't specific to any particular type of turbo I'd ask in this section.

I'm looking for a decently cheap BOV that will open under vacuum, can recirculate, and sound ok. Any ideas?

miataspeed1point6 10-09-2006 06:25 PM

I would suggest either the bosch or DSM. Just search for either of those and I'm sure you'll find what you need to know.

Depends on what you mean by "sound ok."

Most recirculating valves are going to be pretty quiet. Even my FM BOV which I currently have VTA through a JGS OAV sounds only like a tight fart. (is that enough acronyms for one sentance?)

Bell Engineering sells a simple diaphragm type valve for $55, which is probably about as cheap as you're going to get for a part of known good quality. That's about the same as you'll pay for a Bosch 110, which is another common low-cost / reasonable quality valve.

greddy type RS, has a connection for recirc and one for VTA. not so cheap tho.

Hmm, the bosch sounds good. Does it open under vacuum?

Joe, I'm in the Army. Do your worst with acronyms, I'm now immune to alphabet soup!

bripab007 10-09-2006 07:47 PM

Yes, the Bosch opens under vacuum.

kotomile 10-09-2006 07:52 PM

awesome, where can I purchase one? :D

miatamania 10-09-2006 08:59 PM

whats with opening under vaccum? what does that do...and does anyone know if there are any sound clips of BOVs and styles, kinda like there are for exhaust?

kotomile 10-09-2006 09:06 PM

opening under vacuum allows the blowoff valve to help with lag by drawing air in through the valve, bypassing the turbo.

There's a good comparison video for the SRT4 community, but doesn't help us much (SRTs run 15 psi stock, I want to know what different BOVs sound like at around 7 psi)

Just about any recirculating bypass valve should open a little under vacuum.

You can get them here for $46: http://www.paragon-products.com/prod...110.337.50.htm

BEGi sells similar ones for $55: http://bellengineering.net/Pages/pro...ata_parts.html

Thanks! Ordered from paragon

I have a brand new one laying in a drawer. I was gonna just offer it up. I'm not gonna use it.

forge, the bosch ones don't last very long.

Newbsauce 10-11-2006 12:44 PM

I use an Ebay BOV (turboXS type-H ..non RFL) and it works great. I run a VTA setup though. Did I mention it was like 21 shipped?

I'm tempted to get that one after seeing it, but I wonder if it'll work with an AFM setup since you only have a MAF b/c that HKS VPC. I guess for $21 it's worth experimenting...

My experience has been the contrary. Hundreds of thousands of Porsches, Saabs, VW, Audi, etc. haven't been having problems with them.
