Brake Caliper Rebuilds
 

My driver side rear brake is dragging again for the second time within a month, so time for a rebuild! What parts are recommended for a brake caliper rebuild? From what I can gather by browsing Rosenthal, I will need both NAY1-26-46ZB and NAY1-33-26Z. Should I get new slides as well? If so are 4x BW0H-26-998A, 2x 8239-49-114, and 2x 8173-49-114 what I will need? Please correct me if I am mistaken. Are the pistons usually salvageable? I'm not sure how mine look under the boot, but living in the south I don't think they should be too awful due to our road conditions. I'm considering upgrading the brake lines while the calipers are off (master-C rebuild maybe as well?) and purchasing some stainless lines, anyone have experience with the FM set? The 949 are sold out, but they look really similar. Thanks in advance.

Ive never had to replace the piston on any I have done. Make sure the slides and boots are all clean and lubed properly

+1 and ++1 on the clean and lubed bit.
If there is discoloring or surface corrosion on the piston or cylinder steel wool usually cleans it up. I haven't had one pitted so it was unusable. Maybe I might have if I took apart every caliper I have replaced but the totally crap calipers I don't even try to rebuild.

You really have to have a bad piston to need to replace it. Even pitted ones can be cleaned up and reused.

AVOID buying Beck Arnley. They didn't include the seals around the parking brake levers, even though all the pics online clearly show those parts included. And, that is one of the major failure points - the very reason I bought the kits in the first place.

When contacted, they blew me off without an apology, refund or offer of replacement. That's what kind of quality you get when they move their operations to China.
