There is a huge discussion somewhere on here about spot welds vs fully welded. I would do like 4-6 spot welds around the whole thing, letting it fully cool in between.

I've wondered about this. Obviously there's some play in the pinion when you have it out and in your hands, but once everything is installed and loaded up, I can't see that slack being perceptible.

I may still have Abe weld mine.

but seriously- he tacked it in 4 spots, let it cool each time, then blasted weld around the whole thing.

Mines fully tigged and smooth. BUT there is some play left in the rest of the column. I'd say if your column is all past 100k don't worry. You'll probably still have play(very slight). Just remembered I actually felt that same play prior to the weld, I don't recall any difference in that play and what I have now.

I'm installing a non welded pinion in the car for now, so I can drive it this weekend.
I'll get a 2nd one welded up and install it at some point.
