I have PBR ultimates and like em. They stop pretty good and warm up quickly, but the first time i had to stop quickly I almost locked up when they began to bite hard after a few seconds.

I dunno, I'm with Ben (halfway). I faded the shit out of my HP+s on the track the first time I had them out. As a street pad they are fucking AWESOME. They dust a lot, a little squeaky sometimes, but I have NEVER faded them.

Ben, I have a friend who runs HP+ on an STI and HPS on a '94 Supra Turbo. Loves the HP+s, HATES the HPS, so much that he is going to throw away the 500 mile old HPS and go BBK earlier than he was planning on the Supra. He says the HPS feels like shit compared to the HP+.

I don't know man, proof is in the pudding I suppose. I've never had an issue with my hp+ and I refuse to believe anyone is driving harder than me at Hallett or the 1.3 at MSR. Both of those tracks are severe braking courses and I even have the little 1.6 rotors with no ducting. I'm going to try hp+ with my sport brakes, but I don't think that's going to cut it with the big motor, so I will then go to blues with standard 1.8 brakes and see where I stand. I'd much rather live with the standard rotor and pad prices.

Obviously my superior driving style is more conservative on brakes.

I've never had the HP+ on my car, but I've driven 2 miatas with them. I feel that the HP is a better pad for typical street driving as it bites much harder when it's not hot. The HP+ is a better pad if you can keep heat in it. Neither is appropriate for track, and you'll see that when you're making better power.

Respectfully, it really doesn't matter if HP+ is better than HP on other (very different) street applications.

Whatever you do dont buy hawk blues. They ate my rotors brand spankin new 12" Willwood rotors. I use regular street pads(autozone -20 bucks) now (track use) and havent burned through a set yet... 2 seasons... The next set I am buying are PFC-90's My family has EXCELLENT luck with them and they are supposedly a good race pad.

Sorry i'm late... HP+ from frozenrotors.com... cheapest price around.

Lots of good info guys...Like i said i already ordered Ultimates, but if I'm not happy (or even if I am) I'm gonna try Hp+...

BenR 05-12-2008 12:14 PM

HP+ and ultimates were ok on short tracks before I was turbo.

Blues and blacks are not for street use, they chew the shit out of rotors. I've seen several cars shoot flaming sparks from the wheel wells while braking in blues. I've had blacks last 6 months with mixed street and track use.

On my DD/track beater 300ZX, my first upgraded pad was the Axxis Ultimate, then I switched to Hawk HPS, then BACK to Ultimates. The initial bite is a night/day difference. Ultimates are the best bang for the buck, IMO. I just grab the cheapest set from an eBay vendor.

+1 For the Axxis Ultimates

Love the bite on them, as well as does ever other person that has driven my car regardless to what pad they are using. The dust like a mother but you give some to get some.

ihmcguinness 05-14-2008 10:48 AM

i haven't really heard much on this thread about the hawk HPS. i do 95% DD, 5% autox. would you recommend those or the ultimates?

TonyV 05-14-2008 12:10 PM

re read man, as far as THIS thread goes HP's seem to be the way to go! I just got my PBC Ultimates today! AND my ss line kit from advanced autosport...
