BSFC - are the factors still relevant for modern hardware?

Using online Fuel Injector Calculators, a lot of them ask for the power adder to determine the Brake Specific Fuel Consumption like:
  • .45 to .50 for N/A Engines
  • .55 to .60 for Supercharged engines
  • .60 to .65 for Turbocharged engines
Just curious if these values are pulled from a book from the 1960s, or if they still apply to more modern turbo technology. I also don’t understand why the Turbo has a larger number than SCs indicating it’s less efficient. Is it strictly be definition, because the Turbocharger relies on exhaust?

Please talk to me like a 8 year-old. Sock puppets encouraged.

Engines with boost are usually run richer than naturally aspirated ones for safety. This doesn't hurt power very much, but it definitely results in more fuel burned per hp.
