It would help to know what year car you have. If I recall correctly, Mazda switched from R-12 to R-134a in the 1994 model year.

orozconleche 07-02-2013 01:43 AM

Oh Sorry its a 91 NA 1.6

Joe Perez 07-02-2013 02:06 AM

Well, you basically have five options.

Option 1 would be to go to an A/C repair shop and give them money. I exchange for this, they will repair and re-fill your system with R-12.

Option 2 is basically the same as option 1, except that they completely evacuate the system, change out a few parts, and convert it to run R-134a instead.

Option 3 is the same as option 1, except that you buy the R-12 from any one of a number of sellers on Bay, skip the "repair" part, fill it yourself, and have to repeat the process in a year.

Option 4 is the same as option 2, except that instead of paying a shop to do it properly, you buy a $100 "kit" from the auto parts store and do a half-assed job yourself without having the proper equipment to flush and evacuate the system.

Option 5 is, by far, the simplest and most economical. You put the top down. This is SoCal, after all. (I haven't owned a car with aircon in nearly ten years.)

Oh wow Lots of Info and Man... Seems all So Complicated, I Do like the Top down Just That The Sun Sometimes is Pretty Intense but I Can Live with it. Thanks Again I Do Appreciate it.

That's complicated?!

I Have A Bad Feeling About This One.

Adding a foam front mesh back to option 5 would enhance the experience without increasing the cost and complexity significantly.

Not going to lie. The A/C in my dad's STO is glorious on those days when its 80+, with 9000% humidity and down pour. The same type of day in my car would have been, top up, windows up, vents on full outside air, I need to wring my cloths out after 10 minutes and there is a sweat pond in the kirkey. Or, top down, windows up, please god people dont slow down from 80.

Ha. Here in Dallas, we call 80 a nice day.

I used to have to drive 45 minutes to college in 101-107F degree heat with no air conditioning.

Silly undergrad days :)

Yea its more complicated than buying the 134 with the hose and refilling, I would convert it but seems too much of a hassel when I have to convertible...

Joe Perez 07-03-2013 01:17 PM

I happen to have six cans of R12 lying around...

Braineack 07-03-2013 01:38 PM

What things would you like?

hint: I'm going to list the R12 on ebay if nobody buys it here. R12 sells for about $25 a can there.

I have two of these:

It also says reduce refrigerant loss. As in thats part of the instructions.

Braineack 07-03-2013 02:14 PM

I just like free things, i saw a fancy dewalt drill; I'm willing to pay for shipping :)

Joe Perez 07-03-2013 02:32 PM

How many different times do I have to say this? The DeWalt drill stays with me.

But if anybody seriously wants the Freon, and is willing to toss a couple of bucks my way, that we could do.

Braineack 07-03-2013 02:33 PM

It's legal to ship by ground, provided that you send me either a copy of your EPA 609 certification, OR a signed letter describing your intent to re-sell or transfer the product to an EPA 609-certified technician.
