cant get new motor to idle :( (hydra)
So the new motor is in and now I can't get my new baby to idle properly. I just upgraded to hydra 2.6 for the new motor and that was stupid to do since I don't even know if fms map will idle properly out of the box.
Spark works, fuel works, air temp, water temp, MAP, tps, wideband all is ok and calibrated. It runs really rich though- like super of fuck cylidner wall wash rich with black smokescreen effect. And it only runs for a few seconds before dying. Any recommendations? If I kill this new motor it will be a multi thousand dollar tragedy :( |
Hydra 2.17 FTW.

throwing any errors? check to make sure that your sensors are all connected properly - (second coolant temp sensor)
make sure your IAC is functioning properly correct injector size for the 2.6 settings? |
Dumb question?....why aren't you leaning it out if it is rich and black? Your plugs will eventually foul and cause panic, followed by a thread "no start"

I'd offer to help, but the 2.6 has a crazy interface compared to the 2.1/2.5.
i say email jeremy@fm and he will hook you up with at least some assistance. |
I have to agree with Y8s.
The interface for the 2.6 sucks. Even if you had FM convert your map from the 2.5 to 2.6 there are values that don't get imported/migrated over. (After 1.5 years of 2.6 I wish I had stayed at 2.5 level) after all my other random issues things not working after my upgrade they are going to upgrade me for free to the 2.7 version <God Help Me Because I know Hydra Can't> Sorry for the random rant... BTW: can you upload one of your maps or any logs you have. Some of the PID controls can be tweaked on the IDLE SPEED CONTROl under settings 1 (This was my base setting for that it has changed and I don't have my current map in front of me) also my main injectors are 440cc I'm sure those 750cc injectors are a bit harder to get to idle properly. You may also want to move your target idle up to 1000 or higher .. Also sometimes under closed loop control if it isn't fine tuned enough down low it can oscilate quite a bit 0.0 14.8 65.1 12.1 600 25 140 120 20 35 |
OK Update.
I got the thing to idle. Actually, Phil at Element Tuning got it to idle. The map was really really really rich and had to be leaned out about 30%. Idle sat around 14:1 whereas with my 2.5 it idled only around 12:1. This is a totally different engine though. Also, for a while it sounded like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders. Unplugging and replugging the coils seemed to fix that. My engine may be fucked though, it's making a bad bad sound. Making a new thread for that. |
