My car died at an autox and wouldn't start back up. Or if it did, it'd idle then die once you let the rpms drop below 2k.
Turns out the vacuum line that rans to the MSPNP was pinched in the footwell of the passenger side. |
Got the car back to my place. Pulled the vacuum line to the MS. Air does get through but doesn't seem as free flowing as it should. Plug in my laptop and the MAP reads 415kpa without the line hooked to it. Pulled the case apart and there is water in the MAP sensor where the line plugs into. Drying that out and trying to free up the vacuum line. We'll see if it's shot or if drying it out brings it back to life.
Brain, keep that replacement coming. If drying it out works I'll keep keep yours as a spare. |
It appears moisture in the sensor likely killed it. Any suggestions to help this from happening again?
Should I put a little fuel filter in the vacuum line to catch moisture coming from the mani or that condenses in the line? If so, should it go near the mani since the moisture is likely coming from it or near the ECU since it could be condensation? Other ideas? |
If you are gonna use a little fuel filter to catch moisture make sure to put a weep hole in it...
|
just make sure the vacuum line has a loop in it.
|
Won't a weep hole bleed off pressure going to the sensor?!?

The sensor is certainly dried out now but still fubar. Gonna have to learn how to solder circuit boards to remove the old and install the new sensor Brain is sending me. |
I have the equipment and limited knowledge if you'd like help. Better than nothing I suppose. There's also Wayne_Curr, who is roughly 2-4 days away via a flat rate box.

Curly, I've got an iron laying around. If I have any trouble I'll let you know. Thanks!
UPDATE: Brains sensor arrived yesterday. Desoldered the Mapdaddy out, soldered his in. Changed the ini settings, changed all the MAP settings I could find in the tuning. Starts and runs like a champ. Dropped in a little inline fuel filter just before the ecu. Hope that catches any moisture in the future. |
