What do you mean no oil feed port? Like AT ALL? Or do you mean its on the other side like the 95+ miata's and you have to route a line from the oil pressure sensor to the turbo?

I would lean toward the Miata longblock. I have heard of several instances of these JDM motors losing compression and burning oil shortly after installation and subsequent flogging. I damn sure would not trust them in a FI application without removing the head and inspecting the cylinders(or using a borescope). On that motor, I wouldn't trust a compression test

Also, the '94 Miata block has the hot side oil feed for the turbo, which is nice and you can swap over you '00 head, right?

what i meant is that there is no factory turbo oil feed port on the front of the block. you would have to do as you said, route the oil from the back of the block or from the head.

jdm engines can sometimes be hit or miss. i've had good luck with mine... changed most of the gaskets (left the head on) and it's been running like a raped ape for 2 years now.

I'll be doing compression tests and plug inspection on both. I guess that will be the REAL deciding factor.
I don't mind routing the oil around the whole block to the turbo since its how I've already had it on the original block.

Thing is, I'll be pulling the head off of the long block no matter what. My car is a 00 so I definitely plan to keep my original well flowing head. Therefore whichever one I get will have its head pulled, get new headgasket, get my original head, all new other gaskets and seals, new belts, etc. So as long as the pistons/rings are in good condition it should work good. Or so I think.

During my research into BP engines I found a few threads that discuss an issue that might affect you trying to put an early BP block into your NB. IF you need to mount the Crank Angle Sensor to the front of your engine (stock design), you may have an issue with there not being mounting holes in the BP oil pump for the sensor. Here's a post that mentions it:
Engine compatability for Miata - MX-5 Miata Forum

I have the same issue on my 96 since it is OBDII. I found a few another thread that mentions that the boss is there, I will just need to tap it. Anyway, just thought it was something you might want to be aware of. I looked at several pics of the oil pumps and it does look like the boss is there (with no hole) on the Escort GT oil pump (at least new ones), so worst case I'm guessing you might need to buy a new oil pump and tap it.
