Changing the steering wheel

i was wonder how do i change the steering wheel in a miata??? what would be something i have to do?

Pull the air bag, its 4 ten MM nuts on the back. Unplug the air bag and horn.

Un bolt and pull the wheel off.

Normally, I would tell you to slit your wrists or jump in front of a train. But since this is the nicer, more family-friendly MiataTurbo.net, I will just tell you this:

If you have to ask how to remove your steering wheel on a forum, you shouldn't be fucking around with your airbag. Leave it alone, or hire someone who knows what they are doing.

so it just a pug and play thing than right?

Fireindc 01-14-2009 05:24 AM

Lmfao.

lol Sav your right.. he really shouldnt mess with his airbag.

or if he records it exploding in his face and posts it we would all get a good laugh.

Seriously guy, I'm drunk right now and my posts are better typed than yours:giggle:

Go to the m.net garage section and look there, it pretty much describes it step by step.

If you think replacing your stock steering wheel and airbag with an aftermarket one is plug and play, you really shouldnt be removing your airbag in the first place

hustler 01-14-2009 08:46 AM

have a friend shake the airbag sensor vigorously while you unscrew the airbag.

johndoe 01-14-2009 09:02 AM

punch the nose of your car first. That will remove all risk.

the airbag sensor sits next to the hood latch.... have your friend hit said sensor with a BFH.

Saml01 01-14-2009 09:34 AM

I have never even seen the airbag sensor on our cars, def didnt come across it while installing the intercooler.

Hey noob, just take the steering wheel apart and unplug the air bag. Its not gonna explode in your face. If your that worried just wear a full face football helmet.

the three are in this pic. two on the sides (above the corner lenses), the third is bolted directly next to the hood latch. dunno about +94...

You know, I've noticed that you sure are drunk alot lately. lol

Wardsweb 01-14-2009 11:12 AM

I have my change documented on my website: 93 steering wheel change

This is a more involved swap, as it allows me to go back to stock if needed. If that is not wanted, then all the cutting and filing to fit the air bag wiring is not needed.
