Changing Your Tranny Fluid?'s

Hey guys tommorow im going to be changing my tranny and diff fluid and I had a ? , tranny and diff fluid are they the same? the guy at napa said I would only need 3 quarts of 80-90 tranny fluid to do both the trans and diff, Im wondering since it says in" miata performance hand book that I need 2qts tranny fluid and one quart diff fluid....so are they the same...to be honest this is my first time changing the tranny fluid.

you can use both SAE 75W-90 or SAE 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube in either.

The factory spec for both is pretty much the same. I think maybe they recommend 80w90 for the diff under certain conditions, but it's harder to find 80w90, and you don't need it.

Just use a 75w90 GL-4. Three bottles total will do both if you don't spill too much. Mobil1 75w90, Redline MT-90, Royal Purple Max-Gear, take your pick.

every time I use Redline, I get notchy crap shifting. I have MT-90 in the car now and it sucks balls. I had Amsoil synthetic in before and loved it. Time to try something else. Rican, it's only a few thousand miles if you want my leftovers ;)

just remember to pull the fill plug before the drain ;)

Yeah the fil plug likes to seize sometimes this is no fun with an empty tranny. If it is seized you can fill the tranny through the backup sensor though it is just a pita. GL man.
