Which clutch?

Which clutch should i go with-ACT heavy duty 6 puck or the extreme with a modified street disc. Both will hold more than i need but what are the advantages of going with one over the other. I want a stiff clutch pedal but not one that is unbareable this is my dd. Mods to the sled include 1.6 begi-s

jasonrobo02 03-13-2008 09:38 PM

I have a 1.6 size ACT XT and have no problem with the increase in pedal effort. I noticed it for a few days when I first installed, but no longer remember what stock pedal effort felt like. I have no experience with a 6 puck HD, so I can't really be of any more help except to say that the XT is working fine for me.

driftbandito 03-13-2008 09:44 PM

how's the xt clutch engagement

jasonrobo02 03-13-2008 09:56 PM

Engagement is fine. I was able to adjust the clutch rod to get the engagement point close to stock location. I don't feel that it on/off at all. It feels like a stiffer stock clutch. Really that's all it is since it's an organic clutch disk with a heavy pressure plate.

driftbandito 03-13-2008 10:01 PM

i guess i will be going with the xt then

jasonrobo02 03-13-2008 10:04 PM

Dude, wait until you get opinions on the 6 puck HD. I'm only 1 datum point. I chose it because I got a killer deal and I wanted the 1.6L size.

driftbandito 03-13-2008 10:07 PM

i was already leaning towards the xt

Braineack 03-13-2008 10:08 PM

the XT with a street disc is a great kit....also see what clutchnet can do for you, one of the nicest things ill be installing on my car...unfortunate you'll never be able to see it.

My clutchnet 4 puck is not as bad as everyone thinks, drove it all day.

XxGoKoUxX 03-14-2008 12:19 AM

uhmm... i have a 6-puck XT, it's kinda weird when u do really slow engagements... cuz it's jerky (as i've been told it's because it's a 6-puck)

thesnowboarder 03-14-2008 02:54 AM

I drove Savingtons act hd 6 puck sprung clutch a while back, it was very on-off to me but very streetable as well. If i were to drive it for more than 5 min i can see it not being an issue at all.

Ill be going with this same clutch as well. Matched with a 1.8 flywheel.

Savington 03-14-2008 03:42 AM

15k on my clutch. I'll never go back to a street disc.

96rdstr 03-14-2008 08:31 AM

I posted this on the original Clutchnet groupbuy thread, but I wanted to say it again.

Igor from Clutchnet is still honoring those prices in that thread as long as you tell him your from Miataturbo.

IMHO, $ for $ Clutchnet is a better deal than ACT.

Ben 03-14-2008 08:36 AM

Puck disc on ACT XT = teh sucks
Puck disc on ACT HD = sex

Braineack 03-14-2008 09:11 AM

I stalled Neo's cltuchnet X3 6-puck. would take about 3 minutes to get used to.

hustler 03-14-2008 10:25 AM

I have a Spec S3 with th e6-puck sprung hub. Pedal pressure is stock, but its an on/off button for the most part. Its a fucking bitch in traffic, but its not my daily. I'll buy it again.

Zabac 03-14-2008 11:03 AM

go with clutchnet...they do not advertise as heavy as act, but i like that
they feel like a mom&pop operation when dealing with them...Igor is real cool and will advise you as best as you tell him what you need
and they are cheaper, and IMO just as good if not better in quality than act
act is not a bad choice by any means dont get me wrong...i just like clutchnet better

hustler 03-14-2008 12:48 PM

the clutchnet clutch I had in the jetta sucked. After about 8k miles the sprung housing wore into the oem flywheel. Clutchnet didn't really give a fuck, so they'll never get another dollar from me.

edit:
and the rivets broke off on the friction material too

BenR 03-14-2008 01:17 PM

6 puck and HD pp for drifting = better pedal control.

driftbandito 03-15-2008 12:18 AM

I ended up going with the hd 6 puck
