Clutch line replacement
 

I know this is a m.net question, but here goes anyway.

Have any of you guys replaced your soft line, between the clutch master and slave cylinder? Mine has a ton of oil on it, from a CAS leak. Wondering if this soft line actually needs replacement w/ time. If so, anyone know the size of the line?

My hydraulic system is giving me problems and this seems to be the last possible culprit.

what are your hydraulic system symptoms?

Occasionally clutch will grab at low engagement points
Occasional soft clutch feel
Occasionally slips
Shifting from 1 -> 2nd makes a loud click noise from tranny
Can't shift into reverse sometimes
Occasional 1 -> 2nd grinds
Clutch master cylinder fluid is already dirty after 30 minutes of driving

97% of the time it feels normal. I rebuilt the slave a month ago (no leaks). Master hasn't been replaced, but will be rebuilt this week (no leaks around pedal). Tranny fluid has been changed to MTL/MT90 blend. It's been bled about 8x's now.

The SS lines sell for cheap on most miata sites.... try miatamania.com

The standard replacement braided clutch line is about $35 and only replaces the stock rubber line... or you could get the longer one that replaces the stock rubber line AND the stupid loopy metal line on the side of the tranny.

Will there be any clutch feel differences w/ this installed?

It was stiffer in my car after i changed to braided stainless steel from flyinmiata.

I have the advanced autosports one and it is awesome. replaces the whole curly-q POS unlike all the others.

Moss motors had an April sale that includes clutch lines... and they have some kind of discount code that gets you 10% off your first order.

Beware the FM ones though. One of the clips that holds the line in the firewall bracket will not fit properly after installing one of theirs. It has to be majorly forced into place and is not a fun task.

Why replace the loop? Is there some performance gain/feel by changing it out?

1) It looks stupid
2) It gets in the way when working on the tranny or slave cylinder
3) It's not really necessary. It's a service loop so that if you damage the threads on the end there is extra material there to flare a new nut on. My car is 12 years old and has had the slave removed 5-6 times a year since I've owned it (5 years) and I've never needed the extra material.

I just bought one of the double-long lines after cancelling my order at Moss for a short one... should be here in a couple days. I'll do a writeup on it and impressions. Should be fairly short.

1. Remove old lines.
2. Install new one.
3. Refill reservoir and bleed system.
4. Drive car.

Just confirmed that the one I ordered three days ago from Goodwin does not get rid of that stupid loop. :vash:

I assume these stainless steel clutch lines have the same function, except one doesn't say "braided" and is half the price. Is there really any difference? (Both from Moss)
