Clutch ponderings
I expect that my 1.8l project Miata will end up with 240-260rwhp. It'll be an auto-x and track day slut and it'll see some regular driving duty on nice days.
I'm trying to decide between an ebay f1 stage 3 kit for $150 and getting in on this ClutchNet group buy. So if I've done my homework we're really talking about... Six puck w/ 1x plate or solid surface with the 2x plate. If I'm not put off by the six-puck-iness of the f1 kit, is there any reason I should choose the other? For extra credit: tell me why I should or shouldn't switch to a 1.6l clutch and flywheel in the process of upgrading. |
the F1 stage III will not be enough.
it's a stock PP and 6-disc. it wont hold that much torque. |
Just a data point- I'm pretty sure I have a 1.8 with 240-260whp and run a Fidanza aluminum 1.6 flywheel with a stage 1 (one step up from oem replacement) Exedy clutch/pp from Racing Beat.
Prior to the turbo it received approx 60-80 6k-7krpm launches on R compound tires and 26 passes at the dragstrip. Since the turbo install it's had 30-40 R compound launches and 12 passes at the strip. No slip yet. I feel that running a very light and low inertia flywheel along with the least agressive clutch/pp (that is capable of holding the power) will help the transmission and driveline live a little longer. Again, just one data point. |
