Clutch Questions
Ok, so I installed a F1 brand 6-puck clutch today. It seemed like it was some kind of semi-metallic material, bought it off one of the miata people here brand new. Anyways, I installed it with no problems and it worked great for about a week. After that it felt wierd upon engagement. When I try to slip it in lower RPMs such as 1000-1500 rpm, it feels like it makes the car lurch foward in a rythmic pattern. Like it grabs and doesn't grab and then grabs again and doesn't grab again. Not chattering, but a semi-grabbing. Before this happened, I was able to slip the clutch easily with no problems. Any Ideas what this is? Did I break it in wrong? (just drove really really easy for the past 1000 miles)
Thanks |
it's a puck clutch... they dont "slip". your description sounds about right for how they work. it probably *wasn't* broken in when it felt like it was working properly...
it's probably sintered metallic but without seeing it, I can't say. so if you let it out fast, does it just grab like a MOFO? spin tires? that's normal. |
IT is normal. yes they are sintered.

Ahhhh, I see. This is my first experience with this type of clutch!! It does grab like a mofo. Stock clutch felt so soft compared to this one. It just grabs and goes!!!
Thanks Guys.:bigtu: |
you should be good for about 230 or so whp with that clutch before it starts to slip FWIW
