In all seriousness, I agree with the others in the sense that you need to prioritize. As for all the people saying to give up the car while you're on public assistance, I counter with this point. No offense to anyone, just playing devil's advocate because it's fun:
Many of you look forward to retirement. You're saying he also needs to wait until he's an old man to enjoy his convertible. Let's say he follows through with that and decides not to pick up a miata again until he fits the m.netter profile. At that point, he's older and possible taking care of himself. But, UH-OH, he's on social security at that point. TOO BAD. NO SPORTS CAR FOR YOU. You can't have a $2k sports car if you're sucking the public social security tit dry! You need to save your money for the inevitable health-care bills that come with age and for all those extra adult diapers you are going to need.
Long story short, no one can have anything nice, ever.

1. I'm not sure who said you can't get a Miata until retirement, but I certainly did not. In fact, I doubt most people on here are retired, so I do not understand why they would say that.
2. My point was that the decisions YOU make allow you to own a Miata at whatever age you would like. It was my decision not to have a kid until I am financially stable. This allows me to spend my extra money on a cheap sports car, while still being able to stay off ANY type of support.
3. Also most people on here seemed to agree that aid/support is a good thing, but not if you are going to continue to mismanage your money and make retarded decisions. Unfortunately government support often go to people become dependent on it, and consider a temporary source of income a permanent source.
4. No one is perfect. But the real stupidity is if you don't listen to advice just because it isn't what you want to hear. BAM.

You see, "sarcasm" is this literary device that allows a person to say something without sincerity, either for comedic effect or to make a point by way of reverse psychology. The logic may be intentionally flawed or overarching.

Furthermore, this is a "Forum", everyone reads everyone's posts. Due to this, sometimes people respond to your post even though you were talking to someone different, especially if they feel you are mistaken. If you wanted only him to see/read it, than you should have PM'd him.

Thanks for the lesson. Your post did not seem sarcastic to me. You may or may not be aware, you are the "Internet", often times sarcasm is lost, especially when done poorly. Based on the comments I've seen in this thread, your post may very well have been completely serious.

I got married at 21. No baby thankfully. Worked 7 days a week putting my wife through school. She worked weekends. We drove a $500 77 VW rabbit and a $400 66 chevy PU during this. She worked hard and got through school in 3 years, not 4. The only handout we got was a 3K loan from my family to purchase a 35K house in a horrible neighborhood so we only had a $330 house payment. Strangely we were still able to enjoy ourselves. As money came available we upgraded.
I can certainly appreciate using Medicare or whatever program it is for the baby. The rest of the gov't assistance is BS. It kills me how people with nothing expect to still have everything. Amenities are just taken for granted now! Flat screen tv, cable, computer, comfy place to live, nice cars, etc. regardless of your station in life. It would never have crossed my mind to put my hand out for gov't help except as a very last resort.
People like Turbo-4play see the gov't as a first choice. His family has learned to use the system for all it's worth. He also likely wouldn't see what's wrong with using credit to buy everything you possibly can, just before you file for bankrupcy. Hell the system's there, what could be wrong with "working it"?
Just add this to the long list of what's wrong with our country.

Beware the words "fairness," "for the children," and "share(ing)." I won't be sharing in the expenses of birthing and raising turbo4's child. Sharing is voluntary. My belongings are being stripped from me under duress by threat of force. So the idea that he is "using it because it is there" doesn't make my heart flutter with delight. What makes the idea that "you need it" more valid that the fact that "it's mine?" People using these programs "because they are there" causes the government to extort more and more from the people who rightfully own things. You "qualifying for it" shouldn't make me unqualified to own it.
And it should not please any of you to live under a system where individuals have no right to their own property.

Don't ban him! We need folks like him as a cautionary tale for others. Variety is the spice of life. In all honesty I can fully understand taking advantage of the handouts that are available. It's just not in my (and thankfully many others here) make up to want to suckle on the Govt teat.

I don't understand all the anger in here. I hate having the gov'mint stealing my money as much as the rest of you but it sounds to me like Turbo has a plan and fully intends to get off welfare and food stamps as soon as he can.
My limited experience with buying a car suggests that if he has a reliable car that isn't worth too much, he would be better off keeping it because the expense of buying another and registering it and paying the taxes on it wouldn't save him enough to justify the time spent actually doing it.
I would suggest you keep whichever miata is worth less, sell the other and work whenever you aren't either at school or sleeping. Create a budget so you can see on paper whether or not you really need my money, and you can determine exactly how much you can save.

It's ridiculously irresponsible, and the lack of integrity is startling. Not even touching the issue that the programs are setup for the needy, specifically the elderly and the disabled and the unemployed, not little ***** who don't even qualify.

Problem is he, and apparently the rest of his family, do qualify! The system is there for the people who know how to use it. That the Govt will give him all this isn't his fault, it's the Govt's. He does have some kind of plan and maybe he'll come through OK and be productive in the end.
It's the attitude about entitlements that bugs me. "If they'll give it to me what's wrong with taking it?" Whenever possible he'll be there looking for more handouts.

That is the attitude that bugs me, and Turbo does seem to have that attitude. He does say he's going to get off the help as soon as possible, but he also acts as if he is entitled to it.
