Coolant reroute progress
2 Attachment(s)
I modified the 1.8's thermostat outlet to point more or less in the right direction. I didn't have access to a competant welder so i jb welded the shit out of it, i dont have any really good pix of the outlet itself but here is what i have so far.
I'm using 1.25" aluminum tubing i got from the hardware store and some random hoses. I plan on running the pipe along the side of the intake manifold and using the holes for the intake manifold support bracket to secure the pipe to. :noes: I don't know that I would trust JB Weld it that situation

I'd trust it if you used it has a sealer and thread locker on an elbow that was screwed in to the housing, but not as you have it now. It won't hold with the fluid, heat, contraction/expansion and the hose yanking on it. You should be able to find another fitting that will work back there, and then you can add a brass barb to the housing for the heater core feed. That's what I did on the FE3... but I think what I'm using is an original fwd FE3 t-stat coolant fitting. Maybe something from a protege or escort gt would work? - rob

i might have to end up getting an outlet made, a 1.6 outlet is only like $20 new at the dealer in the states but shipping & duty will probably negate the cost.

Any junk yards on the island? Many T/stat bodies are similiar in bolt pattern, and of coure the T/stat mounting is universal.

there are a few body shop places that keep some cars but i havent spotted any miata's.
I imagine it would be simple. just get some 1/4" aluminum plate, 2" (or so thick walled piping and then some 1 1/4" pipe. pop the bolt and thermo holes in the plate, weld 1.5" of the 2" pipe to the plate, cap it, pop a 1.25" hole in the side for the 2" of 1.25" pipe. I usually over simplify shit in my mind but that seems fairly straight forward? |
