Cooling issues
While moving my coolant geage holds steady 11 no matter my speed or boost level. However once I come to a stop my needle will slowly move up to almost 1. What do i need to prevent this? Im still using my stock radiator and have never replaced the thermostat. I have read that most people are using a 180 t-stat so im gonna order one of those up but do i need a bigger radiator to fix my problem? From what I've read on other forums those rads are pretty damn good. And you can't beat the price.

are your fans working? coolant mixture? cap leaking? thermostat failed shut?
shouldn't overheat sitting at idle. |
it's probably one of my next purchases, i figure for that price you can't go wrong. the way i look at it is it's gotta be more durable than my CSF all metal radiators. I've had 2 of the upper necks crack on those. Had em soldiered since and no problems. i don't have cooling issues at all but noticed the fins are corroding and a few have mentioned my current rad could use a paint job.

shouldn't overheat sitting at idle. Yes both fans are working. Coolant mixture is about 50/50 which I know should be more like 70/30. Cap is a brand new 1.1 bar. T-stat, I have no ideas it could be sticking partially shut. Like I said I have never replaced it. P.S. Anyone know where to get a 180 t-stat? Sweet, just called Bennett auto and they have the 180 for $8.29 and gasket for $1.59. Do you guys think this t-stat and a 70/30 mixture should fix my problem?

The 180 t-stat won't help with cooling at all. Don't bother.

do you have AC? if not it should be easy to feel the radiator when the car warms up. i mean with your hand, on the fins. a 15 yr old radiator can easily be plugged up with lime/calcium buildup from not using distilled water. if this is the case your radiator should have hot and cool spots across it's area. an inefficient radiator can easily cause your problem and i've had the same thing.
i've also had an issue on one of the 94's i bought used with over heating. changed the radiator, cap, and t-stat. didn't help. then one day while on the side of the road during an overheating i was standing in front of the car looking into the engine bay. felt air blowing on my legs. the fans were blowing the wrong direction. the fan plug had been spliced and the blue was connected to the blue and the black to the black. i switched them. problems solved. fans blew the right direction(through radiator toward motor) and the over heating was gone. not sure how the wires were backward to begin with and never bothered to track down where the reversal was further up/down the line. |

Yes I do have my a/c, well at least all the parts are still there. The radiator isnt original, but i dont know how old it is, so I guess it could be plugged up. i would go for that radiator, i think the guys name is brian, if so he is an awesome guy to deal with, you'll get it fast if thats the same co. i bought my stuff from, Goodwin racing...i think
the 180* t-stat seems to be commonly used, if you need one why not, not much $ difference, consider doing a reroute while your at it |
