Default waiting for the tow truck!!!!

So I was racing a E30 yesterday on US1 and right after my tranny didn't feel right. Didn't think much of it and parked it in the driveway of my friends house. Wake up this morning put the car (6-speed) in rev to back out. Everything was good. I go and put in 1st and the shifter went in but the tranny stayed in rev. Tryed turning the car off to see if I could get it in gear and nothing. It stayed in rev. and now the shifter is stuck on the middle not moving. So I am here on my blackberry waiting for the tow truck to take me to the shop at the high school my dad teaches at to swap in the 5-speed I have there. This 6-speed sucks!

Dude the 5-speed has a problem like this. I had the exact thing happen. Take out the reverse light switch, stick a screw driver in and slide it to neutral. Fixed.
Or that is how we fix the five speed when it does that.

Or sell the 6 speed to me. LoL

Does it really help that much? How much does a 6-speed rebuild run? Is it worth it?

I know of a guy in OKC who does rebuilds with synchros and "rim polishing" for $800 on a 5-speed. I don't know if rim polishing is for your gears or sphincter, but hopefully its both.

Have you tried to aline the shifter linkage, or can you not get to it like the 5-speed. (throught the rev light swich, it rests on the linkage. take the switch out and use a screw driver to push the linkage bar into neutral. It is super easy)

The 5-speeds are comon to do this. And just cause it locked into rev due to linkage. It doesn't hurt the tranny. The gears and all are good. Will it back up in reverse?

Old chevy trucks used to lock up to. We would get under it with a hammer. LOL Presto, fixed.

I'm still drivig my miata 5-speed, and it took all of 3 mins to fix.

I would atleast try, it is better than taking a good and stronger tranny out for a weaker unit.

Just my .02 cents

This is actually a fairly common problem.

Stuck in Reverse

Good luck!

I am hating my miata!! Getting the 2 top bolts of the tranny is killing me. The impact gun isn't even working. And I boke off one of the studs of the downpipe.

I spent about $100 on 1/2" drive extensions and an "impact" wobble, and it was worth it.

Impact guns can be nearly useless here, depending upon the total slop of your extension and adapters.

Try going at these from the top. Remove the CAS and ignition coils, and you should be able to get a breaker bar and a short socket down behind the engine.

My usual attack on the tranny bolts is a breaker bar and some extensions. Use the transmission case and/or the inside of the tunnel as leveredge- let the head of the bar rest on them as you apply force. Dont worry, they ain't gonna break.
