teknikscian 01-28-2008 01:14 AM

wes65 01-28-2008 01:20 AM

magnamx-5 01-28-2008 04:15 AM

It came out a few months ago.

There are new models of it coming out soon. Larger ssd, larger screen and few other updates.

l_bader 01-28-2008 07:10 PM

This little bugger has been on the market for a couple of months, carries a solid-state drive, usb port and a scaled-down Linux distribution.

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardw...-pc-review.ars

There are a few folks that have already successfully ported Windows onto it, but details on device drivers and compatibility are limited.

Give it another 6-months, then the drive and memory size will have increased enough that Asus will offer one pre-loaded with Windows.

If I hadn't just been given an older (P-III) laptop, this would have been on my purchase list for tuning...

I have seriously been considering one just to play with. the windows XP drivers are provided with the PC now.

Stop speaking out of your ass.

Your post had zero accurate information.

1. Came out late last year.
2. Word processor? Uh, try fully fuctional laptop.
3. Yes it has USB.
4. Apple has nothing close to this size.

I have one of those. Kinda old now, but still a wicked laptop. Great for school and tuning, only thing you can't do is game.

Yeah, she sure does.

Pitlab77 01-28-2008 08:28 PM

till you try it and figure out that your fingers press like 2~3 buttons at a time. And i'm a skinny guy. The key board is terrible.

For the price you can get a better used PC.

elesjuan 01-28-2008 09:10 PM

Ugh.. Celeron-M FTL.

disturbedfan121 01-28-2008 09:12 PM

also for the price a brand spanking new laptop for 300? thats pretty good

and the size is great. almost fits in the glove box

the new model which is cmoing out in like a month i think comes with windows pre-loaded on it.

magnamx-5 01-29-2008 05:08 AM

I wonder if i could use this as a permanent install tunning laptop, for MS it probably pulls alot less wattage than bigger laptops thus allowing me to leave it pluged in to my invertor system full time with out worrying about killing my battery,

In that most everything in it is solid-state, I expect your fans and screen will be the heaviest power consumers...

PAT! 01-30-2008 09:44 AM

http://www.fixup.net/tips/l50.htm

They go for less than $100 on Ebay. I had one back in the day for my Haltech and Tec2. Should be good for the MS...

Stealth97 01-30-2008 12:29 PM

I would not pay $25 for that.

disturbedfan121 01-30-2008 01:18 PM

for the laptop itself? or for what PAT!'s link showed

PAT! 01-30-2008 02:01 PM

Probably meant what I posted... its almost exactly the size of a VHS tape and has more than enough power to run the MS software, has a serial port natively. Pretty much ideal for a MS tuning laptop and if you look around you can get them for a song. Granted it won't do anything else worth a damn but its so cheap who gives a shit?

Stealth97 01-30-2008 03:35 PM

what pat posted. When I'm ready to play in the car I dont have a half hour to wait for it to boot.

neogenesis2004 01-30-2008 04:56 PM

you guys that are in to modding and soldering need to check out the mod/hacks section of eeeuser.com's forums. I'm gonna pick up the 4g model here soon and mod the fuck out of it. Sure I could "get a better laptop for the same money" but it wouldnt be near as much fun as making the stuff myself.

also, you can put windows xp on it, you just need to trim it down a little bit using nlite. I got my install down to 278mb. I will be picking one up this week, it should be pretty sweet and a lot easier than using my 17" media center laptop.

Nice minimal install, are there no linux megatune drivers?

Splitime 02-06-2008 03:49 PM

That's the asus? Seems awesome. I wonder if you can clock it down so you don't have to run the fans or at least not as much?
Also, 4gB is so last year. Can you put in one of those new 16gb cards? Not that you'd need it!

How long does it take to boot? Without hard drive seek times, I would imagine it's pretty fast!

it boots up in around 15-20 seconds. its freakin sweet, i have megatune installed on it now and this weekend it will officially become my dedicated tuning laptop.

Damn I'm tempted to get one of these. who cares about the storage? plug in an external HD, or hell even a iPod and then there is everything you want..

wes65 02-07-2008 11:04 PM

yeah, and at $299 you really cant go wrong, i love mine!

AbeFM 02-08-2008 01:35 AM

Pic of it on dash or in car? I want to get an idea for how it "fits". Right now I need a big screen since the laptop is in the passanger footwell. On the dash it would be in FOV.

Does it "sleep" for faster waking?

AbeFM 02-26-2008 07:16 PM

Looks like in a couple years there will be lots of these on ebay for cheap. :-P HP is going to make one MILLION of these....

Stealth97 02-26-2008 07:32 PM

hopefully these small PC's will get cheaper and faster. I'm rocking a doppleganger special in the meatime..
