Cracked bushing housing on rear diff. Not sure what to do.

Hey Guys!
So i was trying to press out the bushing out of the rear diff and a friend of mine decided to use the lip on the arm as an anchor point, i was skeptical but he was pretty sure it will be fine. Well it was not fine and now i have a crack in the lip. Its not huge but you can see i the pic that a small piece is about to fall off. What should i do? I still can't get the bushings out and i am not even sure if i can still use the carrier in this condition. I was planning to replace the oem bushings with Energy Suspension poli bushings. It looks like the crak might not be a big deal because there is still a lot of space for the bushing to hold on to but i am not positive.

What you guys think? Am i f*cked and will have to get a new carrier or will this be ok?

ignore it? thats what I would do at least.

So should not be an issue? Should i have a shop weld the crack on both sides just incase?

Braineack 12-13-2011 11:28 AM

i mean even if that broken section fell off...I wouldnt even care.

Good, thank you.

There are a couple people that are saying the same thing. And no one so far said i am totally f-ed so that's a good sign.

Meh it's fine. I would sand down any sharp edges after that piece comes off and just use it.

Thank for the input guys really appreciate that.

Another question i got. I am now trying to get the seals for the axles out and the seem to be in pretty damn good. Any tips on how to get those suckers out of there without scoring anything?

I would highly recommend just breaking that piece off and smoothing all the edges. If there are any sharp edges left over they could cause stress concentrations and cause the whole bushing housing to split.

I ended up having a shop weld the piece back in inside and out.

I would have sanded it down and called it weight savings.
