cruise control

OK i have a '92 im not sure what drim but it has pretty much everything except leather. anyway the cruise control causes my car to overheat. anyone know why that is? ive decided to take it out even if i do trace the problem. one question where does the cable in the firewall go? and is there something special i should use to block the vacuum line.

Rage_Kage 12-19-2006 03:08 PM

nevermind on the blocking question im a dumbass. also does anyone know of a write-up on how to remove a/c

Braineack 12-19-2006 03:16 PM

i wound the cable up and zip tied it to a brake line.

SamNavy just ripped his A/C out...took a few pics.

I would look for the reason why the car overheats with the cruise on instead of ripping the cruise out. Otherwise, you'll have a car without cruise that overheats.

Radiator time, perhaps?

Rage_Kage 12-19-2006 04:30 PM

actually i just tried it and no overheat. last time i did it it was summer time

Ben 12-19-2006 04:40 PM

You still need to figure out why your car overheats. It's not going to get better or go away. It'll may get worse, and at best leave you stranded, at worst break something expensive and leave you stranded. Do you have any coolant? If so, when is the last time it was flushed? What ratio of water:antifreeze did you use? Original radiator? Have you ever replaced your t-stat?

Rage_Kage 12-19-2006 04:46 PM

i just flushed it, i use preston with about 3:2 coolant to water, as far as i know the rad is original, and the t-stat hasnt been replaced since i got it

Ben 12-19-2006 04:54 PM

So you're running 60% antifreeze? Is that what you ran all summer?

How cold does it get where you live? Do you keep the car outdoors or in a garage?

Braineack 12-19-2006 04:57 PM

i run 70% distilled water.

Rage_Kage 12-19-2006 05:01 PM

Yes 60% anifreeze and 40% distilled, i know its prolly not neccasary but i dont think it could really hurt, could it? I live in oklahoma its pretty mild outside, like right no its misting and around 40* its only froze for a week this year so im not to worried about that. Though it may snow next week. I keep it outside uncovered.

Ben 12-19-2006 05:24 PM

Yeah, that sounds like the problem. You're way too heavy with the antifreeze. I'm running 80:20 water:antifreeze. My car is garaged though.

I'd try 60:40 or 70:30 water:antifreeze in your car. That should take care of your overheating. Replace the t-stat too.

<edit> read the label on the antifreeze jug before you decide on the final mix.

bripab007 12-19-2006 05:59 PM

60:40 anti-freeze:water sounds like the problem to me, too.

Rage_Kage 12-20-2006 12:13 AM

the bottle says 1:1, but most of the overheating occured before the flush
