custom Solid Mounts

Has anyone ever made their own solid mounts? I pulled out my engine and both my mounts are split into two, I am left with zero dollars after making a conversion but car shakes too much, I don't mind the shaking, I just don't like the idea of my engine just laying there, and not been able to get all the power down.

I can't wait for the follow up thread: Hey guys, all of my fasteners have undone themselves!

18psi 01-17-2014 02:20 PM

lol. I can't even imagine a non-racecar with solid mounts

If you have zero dollars, whythefuck do you need to put ALL the power down?

SoCal tries pretty hard to make SoFL seem normal.

Even delrin mounts make the car rattle itself apart and those absorb some vibes compared to solid. This thread is stupid.

I remember way back spending hours building solid mounts for my car. It ran for five minutes before I was on the phone ordering Mazda Motorsport mounts.

Part store has them for 60 a piece and the solid ones go for 40 for both, my brother in law said if I make them I'll spend even less, I just want something holding,my engine.

Hahahah that and my Miata are the only things with my name on it, I'm already negative on my account, I just need anything to hold my engine,in place to take me to work till I have enough money and buy something decent. Junkyard had a mint Miata but forgot, the tools and not enough money.

The broken mounts will do that.
It's not like your motor will punch through your hood and run away.

junk yard's the cheapest option. Buy one put one down your pants.

I did, got me a shift knob, not ready for some motor mounts yet, I don't have that big cajones (pun)

I put a delrin mount on one side to replace a ripped stock one, and still have a stock one on the other side. The vibration is bad, though not completely unbearable (for a track car anyway). What I'm not happy with is that my gauges are completely useless now and since it installs with one long bolt installation is a huge pain in the ass.

The cups that the motor mounts sit in keep the motor from going anywhere even if the mounts fail, they'll be fine to drive on, just wait until you can get something decent or you can buy my delrins...

I had some delrin mounts I ordered on ebay for $40 shipped. They were really nice and had a nice threaded sleeve insert for the bolt to thread in. I thought it was a great idea until I drove the car. Never in my life have I experienced so much vibration if anything is loose it will fall off if anything is semi tight it will become loose. If it is really tight it will still come loose. I ended up with a stock mount on one side and solid on the other still vibrated like crazy but was manageable for a few months. Listen to the guys about for anything other than a dedicated race car I would not do solid mounts. If you can handle some vibration do mazdaspeed mounts if you really want to venture down this road hockey pucks seems to be the best bet. Good luck.

I like your sense of priority.

Was the shift knob cool?

Savington 01-23-2014 11:18 AM

Delrin motor mounts are great for people who think that a fun weekend includes re-tightening major structural bolts on their car. The rest of us are quite happy with either Mazdaspeed mounts or the AWR 70A mounts.

Works a fucking treat for seized bolts though.
