Damn tires rub!
I just got my new tires mounted (225/45/16 HR2) and the fronts rub. I didn't think I would have any issues but I guess the front end is a bit too low. I bent two of the underliner tabs back, and still need to cut away a bit of the underliner. Hopefully that will get it fixed. Anyone else experienced this problem?
I'll get some pics up soon. -Michael- |
could be that you're an inch and a quarter larger than stock... but you knew that :)
|
I'd tell you to go check the tires/wheels section of M.net, as there are plenty of folks there that've tested all sorts of combinations and found the largest wheels/tires that fit in the different model years...
but Miata.net seems to be a dirty word around here. |
You are 1.2" taller than stock. Of course they rub. :P
|
More neg camber in the front MIGHT help you, but possibly at the cost of handling and tire wear.
|
I have noticed several people over at miata.net with these tires without issue. I guess they had factory suspension. Yes I know they are an inch taller in Dia. I have used the tire size calculator many times. I think with a bit of trimming everything will work out just fine. It certainly has a much more aggresive appearance with the new rubber.

Agressive like 4X4? ;)
|
i only rub on my airbage senders deal on highlaod cornering, with 225-50 r15s that measure 24.5 inches tall installed maybe this is what you arfe rubbing on if so just wait it out or remove it.

I have one of those nice wheel well rollers you bolt to the hub and fold that inner fender lip back to gain a bit of clearance. Let me know if you want me to send it out.
|
I forgot you had one, Brad (Newbsauce) needs one bad....I'll hame him PM you....btw I got the vaculator yesterday...going to give 'er a whirl this weekend.
|
damn okies. hehe
Good luck with the fender roller. |
My neighbor has the wrong offset, his 205's rub on his 94R, We used a fender roller such as WOT suggested to fix it.
Personally I thought getting rid of his 100lb American Racing rims was a better idea.... |
They certainly don't look like a 4x4. They fill in the fender tire gap much better and IMO has a more racecar look. After some driving, it appears that the top most inner fender liner tab is rubbing pretty bad. Not sure if I should bend the tab back or pull out the liners. I might take you up on the offer Kelly, if I can't get this to work for me.

Just taking that one upper liner bolt out on each side really cuts down on the tire damage. I have to roll my rears mainly when I switched to the Tein Flex Coilovers and gained all that suspension travel back.

is that a snow-tire in the last pic?

i purchased sportmax 002 wheels.i am gonna have to roll my fenders.i was thinking of the baseball bat method.
|
Im going to try massaging the fender liner and taking out the top bolt for liner and see what happens.
