I made the huge mistake of buying some spline drive lug nuts from crappy advance auto.. Complete waste of 50$. After six months the chrome is chipping and they're rusted. Now one has ruined a lug, thank god it came OFF...

Friend has a set of spline drives from Tirerack.com that are 5 years old and still in 100% perfect shape but Tirerack doesn't seem to sell them anymore.

I'd prefer a spline drive or something with a "key" for each nut to avoid damage to my wheels. Who makes / sells a high quality set that aren't over like $70, preferably less?

FM lugs are supposed to be good. Some "other" aluminum lugs didn't hold torque on 2 cars at "miatas at hallett" this year.

I have McGard Spline Lug Nuts that have held up pretty good for over 3 years.

indeed. though i still don't fully trust them. haha. something odd about having your entire set of lugnuts for every wheel weigh less than ONE of the old OEM lugs.

The OEM lugnuts that comes on Porsche's are aluminum.

Porsche has been using them for many years.

I've been using Gorilla brand spline lugs for two years (tuner lugs). Not light aluminum or sexy but they've held up fine with me changing wheels a bunch for track days, suspension and brake work. I just chuck em on the ground and let em roll around on the pavement. No noticable problems. Have held torque at track days just fine.

whichever japanese brand that has the most expensive lug nuts. That will be the best, no question.

I also have the McGuard two-piece spline drive lug nuts. Still running strong after 3 years of racing and swapping tires for track days. Another plus is you can buy the lug tool separately if needed.

Only thing I wish was better about 949's lugs is the paint. I've probably had the wheels on and off 40 or 50 times and the lug nuts look a little used. That's hardly a legitimate gripe, though; I bet if I didn't use an impact to spin them on/off (I loosen/torque by hand) they'd look better. I torque, drive it a mile or two, retorque the last 5lb.ft on, and they hold.

I use the stock lug nuts. They work fine.
