Depowered Rack Questions about bearing and bushings

in the process of adding a de-powered steering rack.

1. Is it necessary to add the cylindrical bushing back (see attachment)? FM’s instructs visually indicate yes. Other YT vids leave it out.

2. I have access to two racks - to my surprise, the bearing thicknesses of each pinion are different. I don’t see any external markings indicating a different part number. Rack 1 is in better condition, but Rack 2 has my welded pinion. Can I swap it over by just swapping the bearings?

If anyone has background info on why these models differ, I’d be interested as well, or if one is better than another.

3. Is adding poly bushings to the rack worth the trouble?

thanks!

Metal bushing that goes over steering pinion. Does in need to be re-added on a welded/no-fluid rack?
