diff bushing options
 

my diff is being rebuilt, and I figured I would replace the busings at the same time. Its a race car and I'd like somethign stiff. Are the mazda comp bushings the only option or is there something else?

there are a few options for solid mounts: MMR and drifting jellyfish.


suspension techniques has mounts as well.

I think it might have been over on clubroadster, but someone was selling some from drifting jellyfish. Might want to search for them or something.

Good question, I was thinking myself...I bought ES bushing set in the GB ang it came with a set of Diff mounts...Anyone know what difference between the ES ones and the regularly available mounts like the ones previously mentioned. I want stiff mounts, so I don't know if the ES ones will do, I'd hate to change those twice.

good question. stiff is good, but I'm just looking for better control and response. I'm not looking for subframe tearing stiffness. I've been in Hondas and chevys with solid mounts and they were fine. i suspect no one here has had multiple sets, but I'm open to suggestions...

looks like the common ones used are
mazda comp (which will have OE fit and finish I assume)
Drifting Jelly fish ($40 shipped) cheap, but I don't really want to skimp of $15 if there is somethign better...
Energy - these look the most complete with metal sleeves, etc.

I'm guessing any are fine?

Thanks y8s, that's kind of what i wanted to know, I don't think I want solid Aluminium mounts quiet yet. Is that what Joe has in his car? I wonder what the benefits are other than increased NVH, lol.

Drifting Jellyfish are comparable in quality to MMR. I can scan my shops QC sheet and material batch numbers if people are worried. I think the only difference is that mine is a natural color instead of black and I don't sell them for as much. :dunno: MMR has been around much longer than me and I hear they're good guys. Can't go wrong either way. If you need some, PM me. Link on the site is down until another order comes in.

FUCK SOLID DIFF MOUNTS!!!!

I just finished swapping back my oem ones from ISC's delrin soild mounts, heres why.

They suck, the rattle (esp if you have a puck clutch), they whine (highway speeds they are annoying as fuck), there are no worthwhile benefits in running these vs a stiff urethane mount (imo ofcoarse).

A cheap solution, get some 100% polyurethane in a caulking tube (home depot ect ect), then fill the shit out of your old rubber mounts with this shit, then wait for them to harden (about 4 days) and BAM stiff mounts with no highway noise, whining or clunking when shifting, all for $7!!

And after running the time attack yesterday I can say they are perfect for lapping, they keep the diff planted with no side effects.

I did this successfully for my VW Golf engine mounts! It's a good, cheap solution.

so are your old ones forsale?

So iow you don't think that my ES urethane mounts are anything to worry about since I already have them...No need to go to solid? These should be stiff enough and not noisy?

Doing this to my motor mounts and the wifes civic, and I still have half a tube of this shit left, it lasts forever lol.

Care to share some more details on filling the stock bushings?

What did you actually buy at HD/etc.. I've heard of people using the windshield stuff but that shit is expensive!

Also, did you just fill the bushings that are pressed in the housing, or did you try and fill the 'caps with the bumps on them' as well?

We have Mazda Comp rubber, Energy poly, and custom SS solid mounts in stock for the Miata diff.

Are you sticking with a Torsen or going to something else? I can't wait to try one of the Caddy Getrag Posi diffs in a high HP turbo Miata...
