Diff mounts?

Would this make an open diff capable of holding more power or would this weaken the diff?

magnamx-5 03-25-2007 02:58 PM

All diffs need mounts. silly  Open or LSD if it is a 6 inch diff it is weak the gears breack on a torsen the LSD breaks. Diff movement will breack halfshafts etc with wheelhop. FYI

PaKMaN 03-25-2007 03:11 PM

LOL what I meant was i'm thinking about buying solid motor mounts.. and diff mounts. Would the diff mounts help make the diff stronger?

magnamx-5 03-25-2007 03:12 PM

Only with wheel hop situations. in any case it wont help your gears alot.

PaKMaN 03-25-2007 03:14 PM

ya wheel hop is what i'm worried about. Okay cool thanks I appreciate it.

cjernigan 03-25-2007 03:24 PM

Have you been in a Miata with the 40% stiffer motormounts? They supposedly help a temendous amount without the negative sideffects created by 100% solid mounts. The noise and vibration I think would be horrendous with not that much benefit. There's also the real stiff diff mounts as well.

You have someone that is gonna fab these mounts for you, i've never seen them for sale retail?

PAT! 03-25-2007 03:46 PM

There is a company that makes solid ones but I can't recall the name...

cjernigan 03-25-2007 04:02 PM

RS Aizawa might make something like that, I know they make the bushing spacers, I've not really looked into it though.

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-25-2007 04:04 PM

MMR-Direct.com

cjernigan 03-25-2007 04:13 PM

Man, is anyone running those cause they look awesome.

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-25-2007 04:33 PM

I've been interested in them for a while but I haven't found much feed back on them

Al Hounos 03-25-2007 04:37 PM

i'm runnin the mmr mounts. no complaints so far. its a little noisier than stock obviously but not too bad.

plus they're about half the price of mazdaspeed mounts.

That's actually what caused me to make this thread. I was planning on ordering from them.

magnamx-5 03-25-2007 05:21 PM

dammit why didnt i find that site when i had the motor out those motor mounts look nice,

bripab007 03-26-2007 08:39 AM

Not as nice as these: http://www.function-7.com/a0-f7mx05mt.html They don't make diff. mounts, though.

PaKMaN, if anything, stronger diff. mounts would concentrate the make the torque moment more violent on the diff., making the pinion or ring gear snap even more quickly.

magnamx-5 04-25-2007 10:54 AM

well i just bought some mmrs hopefully they will be as nice as i think they are :dunno:

akaryrye 04-25-2007 11:18 AM

shoot son, i think ima order a diff bushing set after work myself, the stock bushings are total crap and i can move the diff by hand. Maybe get a shop to tear down the current setup and put in the 3.9 and increase the lockup on the rx7 while Im at it.

akaryrye 04-28-2007 04:43 PM

mmr differential mounts on the way right now. Then the diff is going to the shop to have the 3.9 gearset installed (i keep running out of 2nd gear at the autox) and to set the preload correctly

cjernigan 04-28-2007 08:47 PM

Man i just realized that MMR is local to me. Dang thats cool i'll have to go visit them, Shag Rag Rd. Industrial district.

dvcn 09-11-2007 08:41 AM

To those who installed the MMR diff bushings-
Did it eliminate wheel hop on launch?

I would like to know if this will take care of it or if I need to take more drastic measures.

firedog25 09-11-2007 10:17 AM

Don't the stock mounts have space for flexing in them? I can't remember, but I seem to recall some diff mount having space and some DYI'ers filling that space with urethane to stiffen up the stock rubber.

ive had some mmr mounts chillin above my computer for 2 months now ... lol I am hoping it takes care of the rear end chattering and wheelhop i get when taking off hard. I really wanna put em on, but i figure if im going to take the differential off I might as well go ahead and install my 3.9 and shim the rx7 for a bit more grab. Thats gonna take me a good day since i've never done it before, not to mention 1 piece axles :td:

i really doubt it will make it go away completely, and i hope i am proven wrong.

rollin904 09-11-2007 07:18 PM

i just ordered mazdaspeed engine and diff mounts-i was tempted to get the mounts from mmrdirect since they're half the price, but i'm not sure if i could tolerate mounts that stiff in a DD.

rappadan 09-11-2007 10:41 PM

i put the diff mounts in approx 6 months ago and only noticed slight increase in vibrations, As far as wheel hop, never really had any problems-before or after. I just put the mmr motor mounts in this past week and the whole package is pretty rediclus as Brainack....

my MSM motor mounts are fs in the fs section...

dvcn 09-11-2007 11:07 PM

So the MMR's are stiffer than the Mazdaspeed ones? I sent them an email asking the same thing but they haven't replied yet.

If they are stiffer I'll order them immediately.

neogenesis2004 09-11-2007 11:20 PM

yes they are for sure. They are made of derlin.

cjernigan 09-11-2007 11:47 PM

The guy that makes them lives close by me. He has a small shop with a lathe. Does the MMR mounts made to order and is pretty slow sometimes about getting parts out. He does make a good product though that's stiff as heck without as much noise as aluminum.

umm ... what? could you please elaborate (in english plz)

akaryrye 10-21-2007 12:17 AM

Well I installed the MMRs, but i gotta pull my rear out to rebuild because theres too much gear-lash. In the two days I was running them, it made engagement very crisp. There was some additional droning between 3500 and 5500rpm, but not too bad, especially considering that my 3" exhaust is not too quiet.

Miata-MS 10-21-2007 12:05 PM

http://www.iscracing.net/

These are the diff mounts I have (scroll down on the right side). They were machined perfectly to fit and the rear end feels much "crisper" now. Not sure that's the right word for it, but it's sunday morning and i'm still half asleep.

Now if I can find the time to do the engine mounts we'll be in good shape....my engine mounts are completely shot.

PaKMaN 01-28-2008 11:48 PM

How would I go about installing MMR diff mounts

Remove old mounts, Put new MMR mounts in.

Ive herd removing the old mounts can be a bitch, Ive herd of torching them, drilling holes in them, using a dremmel with a chisel tool. Reguardless they need to come out, once out the mmr mounts will just drop into place.

Ive been driving on MMR mounts for about 2 months now, Love them.

cjernigan 01-29-2008 12:43 AM

MMR isn't publicly selling mounts it seems anymore. You can get the same mount here though: http://www.driftingjellyfish.com/

I have the MMR mounts with a rigid clutch disc. Vibrates like a cheap motel bed. The Super Pro's are a lot more expensive but should be somewhere in between the Mazda 40% and the Delrins. Haven't tested them yet.

Braineack 01-29-2008 09:25 AM

http://www.driftingjellyfish.com/

I have those sitting on my desk waiting to go in. they are my new pen holder for the time being.

emilio700 01-29-2008 10:58 AM

Interesting. The Drifting Jellyfish mounts are UHMW HDPE, Ultra High Molecular Weight High Density Poly Ethylene. Good mechanical properties. Much less rigid than Delrin but it should work.

Pretty sure the MMR mounts were the same material, but black.

dc2696 01-29-2008 12:05 PM

Well I just found some delrin and uhmw hpde on ebay for el-cheapo (cost prolly 20bux for a set made of delrin) and can machine them at work for free, need some dimensons then I could make a few extra sets if anyone wants them, cost plus shipping would suffice. Intrest??

Make some rack mounts while you're at it.

Thanks for clarifying, I always wondered what UHMW HDPE was?

tann3r 01-29-2008 12:59 PM

Drifting Jellyfish mounts are quite a bit cheaper than the Mazda Comp ones. I wonder how difficult the stock diff mounts are to remove.

It won't be that bad removing them. If they give you trouble you just drill big holes in the rubber and force them out in pieces. Or burn them out, that gets messy though.
