Different wiper motors?

So I’ve swapped my 1993 airbag car to an earlier 1990 non airbag harness(some countries didn’t get this) and finally getting to why my wipers won’t work. The harness and stalks are the non-airbag; but my current motor is an airbag one.

-According to this thread (https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=214962) the wiring for the motor is reversed (Left to right) in the connector for the motor

-My wiper system works with the non-airbag motor but when the wiper motor is swapped back to my airbag version (wiring switched also) I get nothing.

-The different motors mount differently so I can’t just mount the other version without some grinding and such (I have another non airbag chassis to borrow the parts from to check)

- Both motors were tested and work. I have 2 sets of stalks which have been checked to work as well.

When I’m home I am going to try and bypass the stalks with some wire and the connector and see if it can go. Does anyone happen to know the wiring for the airbag connector on the plug or have any ideas? Thanks guys

-The differences per the wiring diagrams (http://www.mellens.net/mazda/mazda_m...991_wiring.pdf )

-(excluding the washer pump etc) is that the airbag has a power T’d off going to the motor for the intermittent stop. Other than that the power goes to the switch (stalk) then to either of the 3 mode wires which take that to the motor which is grounded itself.

-The non airbag one (not too sure on this one) has power going to the motor for intermittent stop and also to the wiper stalk/switch. Does the power go through the motor then back through the wiring and ground at the stalks?

My friend successfully put a late 91 wiper motor in an early 90 (build date of 7 or 8/89) chassis. He had to flip it upside down and just use two studs. Maybe the reverse will work?

^^Actually after looking closer at pics; the early U.S 1990s got the Non-airbag style wiper motor. I thought about just switching the plates and trying it but ya id lose a mounting bolt etc. I mean the airbag versions look cleaner(going into the corner) but If I have to then I have to do it that way.

But if the U.S cars use both motors with the same harness then I must be able to too. Since the power is going the opposite way maybe I just need to reverse the power and ground going into the indicator stalks. I guess ill find out in about 5 hours.

I don't know if the harness is the same. We bought the 89 chassis without the harness in it (it had fuel tank, hard lines, and a windsheild, and that was it), so that came from the late 91 car.

So swapping the power and ground got me Low speed thru off, int and low and high with high. Odd.

Does anyone have the wiring colours/pin out for the wiper stalk connector for a 91+ airbag harness car by any chance? no mazda schematics are showing it.

Is this of use?

^^ very similar to one of the links I posted above. I was really looking for the wire location in the connector.

But I ended up fixing it. apparently only 1990 (u.s and canada) had a different mount (motor facing towards the engine) and 1991+ was towards the firewall.

That means that a 91-92 Canadian miata should have the wiring for the harness I have but mount the same as my car. And on friday a 92 showed up at my local pick n pull yard. So now I have wipers again.
