Dipstick blew out today ...

And I really really hope that its just a pcv valve that leaks under pressure because this happened after I got a little bit of pinging in the excruciating heat we are having around here. If I broke a ringland I would be pissed off and have to go buy some forged crap so it wouldnt happen again.

:x: keep the fingers crossed 70/30 chance all is well but still. :x:

akaryrye 09-01-2007 09:18 PM

thanks for routing for me, im gonna go drive it again right now and see if anything seems different, sort of afraid to go into boost though.

magnamx-5 09-01-2007 09:24 PM

My vote is this means you where running to little boost and you need to turn up the HP. ;) The motor was just saying comeon pussy step on it. GL man :bigtu: fwiw before mine blew i was getting a little smoke at 10+psi.

Braineack 09-01-2007 09:36 PM

test your pcv valve with an air compressor, if it cant blow through then its probably the rings letting compression by. but in my experience, the dipstick blows out with a failed pcv.

akaryrye 09-02-2007 05:33 AM

I think its the PCV, I took it off and found that the little piston does not have the spring in there anymore :) and :( at the same time. Valve cover is coming off tomorrow to look for it, but i bet its in the pan by now waiting for my next oil change.
Ima gonna place an order for the 323gtx thingie, some new plugs n wires, and maybe a few other things from FM tomorrow. Thats what I have found them to be useful for.

don't you mean tuesday?

akaryrye 09-02-2007 07:00 AM

ya but im pretty patient, long as i get it in a week or so, stay out of boost til then.

neogenesis2004 09-02-2007 11:22 AM

fuck a pcv valve, just chuck it and plug the vc and the im.

akaryrye 09-02-2007 03:27 PM

or that. not sure where Id get a plug I trust but they probably have crap like that at some auto stores right?

neogenesis2004 09-03-2007 12:18 AM

tap them and put in a threaded plug. honestly though, its something i would do personally, but dont take my advice if you arent comfortable doing it.

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 09:48 AM

i just clamped a peice of fuel hose to the port and stuck a bolt in there clamping that as well. This way if i choose to go back it is a simple procedure.

akaryrye 09-03-2007 02:09 PM

thats more up my alley magna. Anyways, i got the turbo323 valve coming in a few days so no worries

neogenesis2004 09-03-2007 02:18 PM

I never go back ;)

akaryrye 09-03-2007 02:21 PM

does it mess up the idle a bit to take out the PCV? Its adding air to the manifold so i would assume it would affect the idle right?

neogenesis2004 09-03-2007 02:40 PM

It shouldn't, all it does is recycle blowby back into the cylinder to be burned. Its just an emissions thing, which thinking about it now is something you probably want reversible. If anything it should improve performance marginally. A good baffled catch can is all you need, vented to the atmosphere.

akaryrye 09-04-2007 03:08 AM

ive got an apexi (or some other brand) catch can in the tool shed that I got for free from one of my buddies. Eventually I plan to plug it into the breather port and use the pre-turbo intake as a vacuum source for it. I may decide to completely block off the PVC, but not until I pass emmissions. I have two months to do so and after that its fair game for me for a few years ... probably fab me up a cat delete pipe at that point. As for PCV, if the 323 valve is pulling crap out of the valve cover to burn, Im ok with that as long as its not leaking in boost.

oh btw I am almost positive that my engine is fine and that the PCV got stuck for a second because it was a cheap pos thats only good for NA vehicles.
