DIY Catch Can

Hey guys. I have a small question regarding a DIY catch can. Here is the link to a how-to on the DIY. Now I won't be venting to atmosphere. I've heard it can dirty up the engine bay and fail a visual emissions check.

Now the way I understand it is that the catch can connects between the intake manifold and valve cover port on the intake side. The "In" port on the catch can connects to the valve cover, and the "out" will either VTA or connect to the intake manifold. That part is easy. What about the valve cover port on the exhaust side? The one that connects to the intake crossover tube? Since I'm ditching the intake for a DIY setup, do I just run breather filter on there? Some people say that this makes the catch-can useless. Other's seem to run this type of setup where I'm guessing the exhaust side and intake side both flow into the "In" port on the catch-can. In order to do that setup I'd have to use a T Fitting on the "In" port of the catch can to connect both hoses correct?

Am I just crazy and each of these setups will work fine? I'm on a basically stock engine with an Enthuza XR Lightweight muffler. Plans are for a N/A 949racing setup down the road so no crazy pressures from boosting. I'm just a little confused as there seems to be a lot of contrary information for such a simple simple project.

exhaust side of valve cover needs to have a fresh air connection. that's how the PCV system works.

just stick a filter on the exhaust side, if it weeps, then run it to a home depot catch can and stick the filter on the catch can.

Thanks guys! I bought two filters, one to get the car running and another for when I install the catch can. Thanks again!
