Do i need pistons?

I’m going to build for 220-250 whp, do I need to do pistons? I know I will need a good clutch and rear end. Any recommendations?

nope not to my knowledge the state of tune and how far you push it will dictate how long the pistons last.

TurboMiatKid 04-09-2007 07:58 PM

I drive all my cars hard.

magnamx-5 04-09-2007 08:02 PM

well if you drive as hard as i do my #2 let fly around 250whp but it seen more before it went to many bouts with Detonation in tunning will do that. But if you are abit more conservative in tunning and lift when you are in a race and something doesnt feel sound right you should be fine

Whooo hoo 2501

agreed... you have to pull the engine to do the pistons might as well take care of everything else while you are at it... I think I spent about $1K swapping engines... only $400 of that was the new motor. Upgraded motor mounts, replaced all the coolant lines, EVERY seal was replaced, clutch, etc. It adds up fast. Now, if you don't mind pulling your engine (aka you have another car you can drive when you need to) then your could get away with just doing the pistons and rings and wait on the other stuff until it fails.
