Default seats/seat covers

Hey guys I know this is more of a m.net question but I'm curious to see if anyone here has any recommendations. As part of my ongoing struggle to make my car look like not-***, I've decided that I need to do something about the nasty seats in my 94. I'm open to reupholstery, but hesitant to go leather in a convertible, or tasteful (not ricey) aftermarket. I use the car as a daily driver to and from work with occasional canyon runs and I'm hoping to try autocross this summer. Thoughts? Thanks.

Tan or black interior? If black, go with understated racing seats. They'll hold you in nicely, and will look pretty awesome. Qualifications: None. I have the stock seats.

I posted a reply to nearly the same thing not too long ago. Not to be an a$$, but did you even try to search?

You have a couple of options:

1. Covers, available all over the place and in many different colors. Neoprene, vinyl and cloth. Fitment poor to tolerable. Install in less than an hour. Cheapest option.

2. Re-skin the seats. Leather, vinyl with cloth inserts or velour. Lots more work to put on, but better fit. Never found anything very close to OEM cloth, but may be available if you take it to a shop. Cost from $275 to $575, probably a lot more if you take it somewhere. Good writeup on m.net if you decide to do them yourself.

3. New aftermarket seats. I bought a set from eBay which should be here tomorrow. I have been told by some that they won't fit, and others that they will be fine. Need to make some sort of mounting plates to install. Seatbelt attachment points may be a pain unless you have/get a rollbar and use a harness. Cost $250 to $450. Lotus Elise seats are supposed to be good, but good luck finding them. Cost quite a bit more than eBay ones, too.

4. Racing buckets. Corbeau Forzas are a pretty easy install. Same problems with seatbelts as above. Cost about $800 with sliders for a pair.

Apparently my google foo skills failed me. Option 2 in fabric would be perfect but I haven't found any either. I imagine black leather would cause third degree *** burns. Unfortunately on the aftermarket front I'm fundamentally opposed to putting $800 seats in a $1400 car and harnesses sounds like maximum rice unless I was actually tracking the car. I'll peruse Ebay I guess and see what's available.

You could try the Racing Beat covers -- http://www.racingbeat.com/Miata-1990...tery-Kits.html
