drive belt woes (part numbers)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all, I've been without my turbo/methanol baby for a year now (oil pump failure)...and she's finally back together. I had removed the worn drivebelts (and tossed them in the trash) back then and purchased new ones to put on after the car was back together. Well, long story short, the ones the parts store sold me arent the right size. I have a 1996 R-code car, and it doesnt have PS. I -do- have A/C though. Does anyone know off-hand what the correct part numbers are for the alternator and A/C belts? Thanks for any help... search wasnt very forthcoming for me this evening |
just get a belt for a normal miata on the alternator, and a normal belt for a miata with PS and it will probly fit.

:dunno:
I dont have PS sir...why would the belt for a PS equipped car (the belt I have now) fit my car? :D Thanks for the suggestions...I imagine there is someone here with an R model that knows the part numbers. Thanks. :) -Scott |
AC w/ PS and AC w/o PS should use the same belt. With no PS there is just a pulley in place of the PS pump to tighten the belt.

Ah, good point. Thanks!
Maybe I'll try a different parts store... AZ apparently has the wront part #'s in their system. Thanks all. |
The belts are different. The idler pulley in a no-PS car is a smaller setup than the big ol PS pump and takes a shorter belt.
With A/C and no PS it's BPE8-15-908. If you had PS and A/C it would be BPE8-15-909A. The WP/alt belt is B6BF-18-381. petrol, you can avoid asking m.net-type questions by searching for your parts on Rosenthal's website (www.finishlineperformance.com). :bigtu: |
Sorry about that. I thought they used the same belt.
We have a race to see who could answer the fastest or something? M.net vs. MT.net belt (part number) woes |
No sweat thanks for trying anyway :-)
I still have to measure the belt lengths and get fitted that way. The part numbers didnt cross. I'm just happy to have the car back on the road finally. Tomorrow will be road test day. After a short YEAR of not being able to drive the car, it'll be SO nice to have all that power again. Of course, I have to wait until monday to get my methanol jug refilled...so low boost will have to do. ;-) |

No actually I was in frustrate mode that evening because the belts didnt fit, and wanted to get an answer quick. Better than duplicate posts in the same forums...right? :D |
